New Blog Post Alert!
~ The Heart Organ in Traditional Chinese Medicine ~

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) emphasizes living in harmony with the seasons, and summer is closely connected to the Heart organ system.

The Heart is the organ associated with emotions, joy, love, passion — and even ovulation.

Let’s dive into this introductory post on maintaining health during the summer season!

Compassionate Talk About Healing & Personal Responsibility

Healing isn’t linear, and it’s definitely not passive.
You’re not in the back seat.
You’re pedalling your life.

For example:
What and how you eat every day directly affects your energy, inflammation, mood, immune system, and how well your body can heal.
That includes foods many of us grew up eating without question: gluten, dairy, sugar, alcohol, and yes, coffee.

They do impact physiology in ways that matter—especially when your body is under stress, fighting illness, or trying to heal.If you’re working toward a better tomorrow—or one year from now, we first want to remove the background noise of inflammation.

You do want to be willing to look at how your habits might be getting in the way.

If you're not ready to examine how food fits into your health, that’s okay.
But it also means healing might stall, or move more slowly.
As long as you’re okay with that.

As a business, it would be so much easier to keep patients dependent. Just keep booking them without teaching them how to actually live.
But if the goal is to help people regain power and create long-lasting changes, then that model is unethical and disempowering.

And fixing (reducing pain, symptoms, etc.) without teaching knowledge and skills doesn’t align with our philosophy either.

So we invite everyone who comes to our practice to ask themselves:
Do you want to be empowered, or stay disempowered?
OK to be stuck where things are, but need occasional help for now?

Empowerment means knowing the why, and actively choosing the option, with full responsibility for what comes with it.

Did I hit the pain point?
Well, that’s what acupuncturists do: find the pain point and put a needle in, to invite change.

You are very welcome 😉

Now Offering: Community Acupuncture on the Danforth

Hello everyone,

We are so thrilled to announce the launch of Community Acupuncture program at my practice, Tsumugi Healing Arts, located on the Danforth.

These are reduced-rate, semi-private acupuncture sessions offered in a calm, quiet shared space. This model allows for more consistent care—whether between private sessions, during financially challenging times, or simply as a way to support collective healing.

How it works:
1. Online intake – completed Wednesdays or Thursdays
2. Community sessions – Tuesday mornings only (3rd floor walk-up — no elevator)
3. Occasional online check-ins – to stay connected between visits
4. Private sessions available – if more in-depth, individualized care is needed

Our clinical focus has always been menstrual and reproductive health (including breast health) and mental/emotional wellbeing, though I also support people with sleep, digestion, and general health needs.
This offering is especially for those who might not otherwise access standard private sessions—and I’d love to extend this care further into our communities.

This offering is part of our effort to make care more accessible and community-rooted. I warmly welcome anyone who might benefit from this type of care.

More details here: www.tsumugi.ca/community-acupuncture

And if this resonates with your community, I’d be so grateful if you shared it forward.
This kind of radical, collective healing only works when we build it together.

Thank you!

It's summer.
Summer is Fire element in TCM.

This element, thus summer teaches us how to connect, express joy, and tend the warmth within. Learn how this summer energy shapes our emotions, sleep, and spirit — and how to care for it when the flame burns too hot (or too low).

If you were a plant, what kind might you be?

Some need bright sun, while others thrive in shade.
Some prefer a daily splash of water, others just once in a while.
Plants come with their own care instructions—because one size definitely does not fit all.

Humans are the same.

Yet we often try to squeeze ourselves into a “one care fits all” box (Sad...)

Are you a spiky cactus? An easygoing pothos? Or a big-and-bold monstera?

This six-part blog series gently explores the Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—and how they show up in our bodies, emotions, and lives. It helps you understand your own personalized care manual that's rooted in respect for both nature and each human being.
No rush to dive in all at once. When you’re curious, it’ll be there—a quiet invitation to discover what kind of care truly suits you.

Acupuncture is OS Updates from Ancient Times.

Not magic. Not mystery.
Itt's just a voiceless conversation with your body.

Acupuncture may seem mysterious—and sometimes it truly feels like magic.

But at its core, it’s a conversation with your body in a language beyond words.

Solstice Acupuncture: Summer Treatment for Winter Health

Each year, on the day of the Summer Solstice, I receive a special acupuncture treatment that’s done only once a year.

In this treatment, specific points are needled, followed by moxa to draw yang to its full height.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Summer Solstice marks the peak of yang energy—expansive, bright, outward-moving. This treatment captures that moment and channels it inward, storing it deep in the body to support the yin season to come. It’s like filling your reserves while the sun is high, so you’re not running on empty when winter arrives.

I’ve kept up this tradition for over five years now. Since then—no winter colds, smoother transitions, and a body that seems to remember what season it’s in.

I’m considering offering this treatment next year for those who are curious about building seasonal strength the old-fashioned way: by working with nature.

Would you be interested?

Growing Through Relationships, Not Algorithms

At Tsumugi, we intentionally keep advertising to a minimum. Rather than relying on algorithms, we choose to grow through real, human relationships.

Healing is a deeply personal process and we believe the way it's shared should be just as personal.

We hope to nurture genuine connection between people. That might look like talking about wellness over tea, or checking in with someone you care about. Sometimes, the most powerful medicine is simply being seen and heard.

And if our work resonates with you, we’d be honoured if you passed it along to someone who might find it helpful.

If social media is a busy Shibuya crossing, we aim our website to be more like a quiet backstreet bookstore with a cozy café tucked inside.

Community Support Through Education & Shared Knowledge

We believe in the power of knowledge and community.

Chinese Medicine lives within each person, and we’re here to share it with you.

While this Facebook account introduces our practice, we hope to expand it into a resource for everyone—not just those seeking one-on-one care.

Whether you're here to explore wellness or discover healing tools, we aim for you to leave with something valuable, supportive, or inspiring.

Chinese Medicine is a People’s Medicine

Chinese Medicine has always lived in the hands and hearts of everyday people—woven into daily life, passed from one generation to the next, and shaped by shared experience.

You don’t have to be Chinese, or even familiar with its roots, to find something meaningful in this way of living.

At Tsumugi, we see care as something that goes far beyond the treatment table, because it lives in how we learn together, support one another, and stay connected along the way.

In-Person Care: Pros & Cons

At Tsumugi Healing Arts, we value your time and want to bring the best care right to you. That means being thoughtful about when to book In-Person care.

In-Office Care: Yin Treatments
These sessions are your moments to rest, receive, and be nourished—think acupuncture and bodywork, like an essential OS update for your body.

On the other hand, Online Care: Yang Treatments
These sessions focus on engaging, reflecting, and taking empowered steps forward.
They’re a great fit if you:
• Want lasting, sustainable change
• Are ready to shift your condition more quickly
• Live far away or can’t visit regularly
• Need clarity between in-person sessions
• Want to understand your body rather than outsource your healing
• Are budget-conscious—online sessions come at a lower rate to support access

Mixing yin and yang treatments in the same session can confuse your system and dilute the benefits.

Clear intention with each treatment makes all the difference.

Pro tip: Healing isn’t something done to you—it’s done with you. Learning home-based care builds your confidence, clarity, and resilience.

You just need a starting point that fits your life—let’s find it together.

Happy healing!

Why Online Sessions?

At Tsumugi Healing Arts, healing isn’t just what happens on the treatment table—it’s a whole process that happens with you, wherever you are.

Online Care: Yang Treatments
These sessions are about engaging, reflecting, and taking empowered steps forward.
They’re a great fit if you:
• Want lasting, sustainable change
• Are ready to shift your condition more quickly
• Live far away or can’t visit regularly
• Need clarity between in-person sessions
• Want to understand your body instead of outsourcing your healing
• Are budget-conscious—online sessions come at a lower rate to support access

On the other hand, In-Office Care: Yin Treatments
These are your moments to rest, receive, and be nourished—think acupuncture and bodywork, like an essential OS update for your body.

Why keep them separate?

Mixing yin and yang approaches in one session can confuse your system and dilute the benefits.
Having clear intention with each treatment makes all the difference.

Pro tip: Healing isn’t something done to you—it’s something done with you. Learning home-based care builds your confidence, clarity, and resilience.

You just need a starting point that fits your life.
Let’s find it together.

Happy healing!
