Reflexology has ancient roots in Egypt, dating back over 4,000 years. Wall paintings from the tomb of Ankhmahor in Saqqara (circa 2330 BCE) depict practitioners applying pressure to hands and feet, with inscriptions suggesting therapeutic intent: “Do not let me feel pain,” and the response, “I will act as you please.”

This early evidence shows that Egyptians recognized the healing potential of touch and energy pathways. Reflexology was part of a broader system of wellness that included massage, aromatherapy, and hydrotherapy, all aimed at restoring balance and vital energy—what they called “Ka”. It’s remarkable how these ancient techniques continue to influence holistic health today.
