Stress takes on many forms in the body: emotional, physiological, mechanical.
Not all stress is bad, but like everything else in life, too much of something can create problems. A horse that is “stressed” will begin to show signs of dis-ease, many of which manifest into outward symptoms: lameness, behavioural changes, performance issues. Some of the techniques I use in my sessions are to facilitate the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system- the network of nerves responsible for relaxing the body after periods of stress.
The basis of osteopathy is to look at the WHOLE picture - can you think of some things that are stressors for our equine friends?
