Do not underestimate the power of KINDNESS. When you give kindness, be prepared to receive it as well. This post is to honor my sisters and brothers in Nursing. We each know what KINDNESS looks like and the power it possess. KINDNESS is not only directed toward our patients. It is true that kindness and compassion lead to faster healing and pain reduction in our patients (it is a scientific fact, but I will not quote scientific journals here). KINDNESS towards our peers makes the biggest impact on each and everyone of us. We, the Nurses, when presented with a harsh reality during our duty time, need a random act of KINDNESS from each other. We do it by sending a friendly smile, a hug, a kind word to the ones that are exhausted, just lost a patient, or had a difficult decision to make. When we give kindness, something miraculous, inside of us, happens. We feel less exhausted, more resilient to adversity, more inspired to keep 'moving forward,' and switch to giving without expectation to receive. So... BECOME ALERT to random opportunities and when you see an opportunity to act, ACT. Many of us act kind and expect nothing in return. Simple thing as returning a stray shopping cart to it's storage or pull one out for another person, triggers the 'feeling good' hormones in us and creates a moment of happiness, which may be just enough to affect you happy mood for the rest of the day. Random act of kindness can be like a pebble thrown in the water; it's effect can trigger massive change, making another person's moment or even a day and so on. MOST OF ALL, be KIND to yourself first!!! You cannot give it if you do not receive it, even if it is from yourself. TRY IT. YOU WILL LIKE IT.
