Grieving is a journey that teaches us how to love in a new way now that our loved one is no longer with us. Consciously remembering those who have died is the key that opens the hearts, that allows us to love them in new ways.

We had no idea it was hobby month! What's your favourite hobby? A good book with a cup of tea sounds about right for these chilly evenings.

Today is World Kindness Day. It is a global day promoting the importance of being kind to each other, to yourself, and to the world.

The purpose of this day, celebrated on November 13 of each year, is to help everyone understand that compassion for others is what binds us all together. This understanding has the power to bridge the gap between nations.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

We get asked this question a lot. For some people, death seems like a far off eventually that it doesn't require immediate attention. For other folks, the idea of preplanning may feel uncomfortable.

We are here to ensure it's an easy, straight forward process. Call us today to find out how we can help you. 403-625-3212.

With Thanksgiving behind us and more holidays looming ahead, we understand how difficult it is when you are grieving someone who is missing from festivities.

Grief comes in waves, lasting 20 to 30 minutes. Allow yourself to feel, cry, talk or journal.

Grief does not honour time or space. Songs, cider, or even seeing a funny Halloween costume or Christmas lights can be triggering and may not happen at “a good time”. It may feel like you are about to be dragged down a dark hole, practice saying something like “that was then, I am thankful for now” until you can find an opportunity to let go and feel the grief.

Make time for feelings. A little each day, or each week, where you know you are safe to process your loss. Look through scrapbooks or cook your loved one’s favourite meal.

Invest energy into the friends and family who are with you. Our instincts are to withdraw because grief can be messy and uncomfortable to let others see. Let people in, find ways to serve and you will find you will create new memories while carrying your loved one with you.

If you find yourself unable to process what is happening, please reach out and call the Distress Line at 403-266-HELP.
