Join us this Saturday, June 29 at Kerby Hall (1133 7 Avenue S.W. Calgary, Alberta) from 2-7PM to join Refugee Health YYC for a half day dedicated to newcomers! We will be there with Alberta International Medical Graduates Association (AIMGA) , and Filipinos Rising

World Refugee Day is an international day organized every year on 20 June by the United Nations. It is designed to celebrate and honor refugees from around the world. Refugee Health YYC would like to take time to honor them and other newcomers in Alberta.

Our goal for the day is to have a half-day celebration and information session for newcomers to be able to address their concerns about moving to Alberta. Whether it be for health information, job postings, child care, how to enroll your children into school, we want them to be able to find answers to their questions on this day.

As Refugee Health YYC, we also are currently conducting a study understanding newcomers perspectives on vaccines to provide recommendations to policy makers on how and why newcomers choose to get vaccinated or to not get vaccinated. We want to be able to provide newcomers with an avenue to express their feelings towards how to improve healthcare for newcomers as well as answer any questions they may have regarding entering or expanding a career in academia.

Did you know today is World Refugee Day?

With the ever-increasing number of refugees, we must take the necessary steps to ensure that we are supporting refugees within our community.

At Refugee Health YYC, we're dedicated to building community-engaged initiatives that empower refugees. We invite refugees within our community to participate in our research, helping us understand and address their unique needs. We are among the few research programs embedded within a specialized refugee health clinic in Canada able to rapidly characterize this population's health issues, clinic use, and care barriers to help direct and improve their care. We share these findings locally, nationally and internationally to improve healthcare delivery and wellness of recently arrived refugees in Canada.

We are proud to introduce Canada's 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧-𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 refugee health atlas! Designed for Canadian refugees, primary care and settlement providers, and policymakers, the atlas offers everything you need.

𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻:
• Search for services based on provider type, community, city, and province
• Utilize AI-enabled translations to assist refugees in finding a provider/service
• Foster collaboration among healthcare providers, settlement workers, and policymakers to ensure continuity of services

"Our team celebrated the 2021 Canadian Hockey Championship, by scoring 2,268 COVID-19 vaccines in 2 days at the Village Square Hockey arena.

It was my honor and privilege to be part of the evaluation team from the O'Brien Institute for Public Health (Refugee Health YYC) who helped to provide an ongoing real time data from the field with an interactive map that shows the neighborhood of the vaccinated people.

This walk-in vaccination clinic was set to immunize our most diverse and vulnerable community in NE and SE Calgary(the hard hit communities by COVID-19).
Most of the comers were served in their native language, get in, and get out in less than 30 minutes.
