Really enjoyed .mentalhealth and .health ‘Navigating Perimenopause & Menopause’ sessions this morning. Dr. Leon, Poonam and Shabina are thoughtful presenters, very knowledgeable and offered participants practical suggestions for this life transition.

I left with a focus for next steps in my own health journey and also with increased confidence that I’m on the right track in my approach to supporting women through perimenopause to post-menopause, drawing particularly on my years of experience as a Behavioural Health Consultant in Women’s Health.

Definitely recommend attending this session when it’s offered again!

My mom sent me this pic from the 80s and it brought up all the feels. As you can see from the decor 😊 nothing was perfect but that’s not what I remember. I remember the traditions of putting up the tree with Christmas music, being excited to put our handmade stockings from our special aunt out each year, having homemade cookies, fudge that we threw in the snow and lefse, playing cards and games and the excitement of Christmas morning. I remember the Christmas I was sick with an ear ache and the Christmas I snuck into my parents closet to look at the gifts ahead of time and ruined it for myself. I remember the year I pretended to be asleep and watched from my doorway down the hallway as my mom put stuff in my stocking - was a tough way to find out Santa wasn’t real. I remember that my parents always invited people who had no one else to be with for the Christmas dinner (I hated that as a kid but now see their kindness). I only remember one gift - my cabbage patch doll Quinby Marlene ❤️ - from all those years. Our parents certainly got things wrong and I’m getting things wrong in my parenting, but maybe we can take away from these simpler years that it doesn’t have to be perfect to be really sweet and memorable. Our kids are going to remember the predictable and loved yearly traditions and the time spent together. Deep breaths parents - we’re doing enough - we’ve got this!

I signed up for Intensive 1 Making Sense of Kids a couple years ago and didn’t set aside the time to get through it with the cohort so have signed up again and am being more planful to keep up over these next 20 weeks. Here we go!
