Thank you to the select few of you who have followed me on this page - within the next week or so i will changing this page and I will be going by "Doula in the Den" on this page instead of "With Dignity Death Doula Services", along with on my instagram/website/ through my email - I will still be offering the same services and art classes / therapeutic art environments, but I thought it would be better to combine the 2 and go by a more unique/less generic name for my services

Thank you again, I don't remember much, but I do remember who is there and who supports me when I need them - you are the best

Do you have a person who you would like to visit more often but can't due to your own circumstance, schedule, or location? Maybe you worry about them because they live alone.

Because I know this is a reality for a lot of people in our community, I now offer "Wellness Checks" (welfare checks) for people who live in Calgary or surrounding jurisdictions.

These checks will include:

• checking to make sure your person has a good inventory of fresh food
• cleaning any debris or clutter to prevent trips or falls
• ensuring the house is secure and safe
•making sure your person has clean clothes and is bathing
& more

With in-home care work experience, I have training in personal care for seniors or people who are dependent on others.

Please don't hesitate to reach out and DM, email, or call me to discuss this in more detail if you need this type of support. More information is on my website [www.withdignitydoula.ca]

This is the official pricing statement that is a part of any New Client Packages given and will be posted on the website soon

I am sharing this as I think full transparency on pricing is important

" Thank you for your trust in letting me work beside you and with your family during this sacred and important time in your life. I would consider it an honour to get to know you and to gain knowledge that is needed to care for others in the community. The experiences and knowledge gained, as well as the time you allow me to spend with you will help me grow to be a better end of life caregiver to others after we have met. To me, that is priceless.

Because of this, I offer a “sliding scale” to determine pricing for contracts (sliding scale is a range of minimum to maximum amount determined by current situation or circumstance).

The average hourly rate for any Doula in Alberta is $32.00, and I am aware that not everyone is comfortable with that rate, so I offer a sliding scale as I fully believe everyone deserves to have the same level of end-of-life care or support that they want, wish for or require regardless of current circumstances.

For anyone that I offer service to on a voluntary basis, I do ask that you donate a small amount that you are comfortable with to a charity of your choice (Canadian Cancer Society as one suggestion), so that others can benefit from the resources and knowledge they also provide to our community.

Thank you for your time and consideration, Chantal, your Death Doula "

I have this print and it’s Absolutely beautiful, it would make such a lovely Christmas gift.. but I’d hurry up if you would like to order, because this print sells out very quickly.

Considering the day I have had and the news I received, I think this is a fair reminder for everyone

"Don't give up. You can cuss the whole time, just don't give up"

Swear like a sailor if you have to. It's fine.
I won't mind.

Considering all that you have gone throigh before, you can get through this, too... because healing is hard but worth it

Did you know the benefits of animal or pet therapy?

This type of therapy can have some of the same positive effects as music or art therapy / therapeutic music and art environments.

It can be beneficial emotionally for people of all ages who are open to it, but it has a profound effectiveness with helping seniors with symptoms of depression and anxiety. This type of therapy or interaction with animals can also aid in communication and support some seniors who are withdrawn to interact and verbalize comfortably.

If not art and music, I believe people should explore the option of animal therapy

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

"Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30.

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family, and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”.  The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations." • www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/national-day-truth-reconciliation.html

We have a long way to go, and I believe there definitely needs to be more than 1 day of official recognition for what happened to families and innocent children.

"No one sees what you see, even if they see it too."

Grief is individual, and everyone experiences it in their own way.

It's really important to remember that there are no set rules or stages of grief and there is no right or wrong way to feel after a death...

(The "5 stages of grief" is one theory that is more so for people to accept their own mortality due to a recent (terminal) diagnosis, and the "4 tasks of mourning" is just another theory or 'guide' to work through difficult emotions, as there are many theories to use foe your own healing. Some might work, and some might not).

I truly believe there has to be something else after we leave this life, and those who leave us first can watch over us from there.

I also believe those that we miss send us small messages to let us know that they are there.

We were at the park the other day, and my daughter played with the letters there on the other side, spun them around randomly, and said, "That's better" before running away.

Deb,

It's your birthday today. I hope you are resting like I believe you are. Thanks for saying, "Hey."

Today, September 21st, is recognized as World Alzheimer's Day

Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia.

"Dementia will steadily become more common as the “baby boomer” cohort (the large group of people born between 1946 and 1965) ages into their eighties and nineties. In 2020, 8.4% of Canadians over 65 had some form of dementia.

The number people in Canada projected to be living with dementia in 2030 is 955,900."

"The stigma:
56% of Canadians are concerned about being affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

46% of Canadians admit they would feel ashamed or embarrassed if they had dementia.

☆ 87% of caregivers wish that more people understood the realities of caring for someone with dementia. "

Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability that is severe enough to interfere with your daily life, while Alzheimer's is a SPECIFIC disease or type of dementia.

Dementia & Alzheimer's IS NOT a normal part or process of aging. It will get worse over time and is not hereditary/genetic. There is also no cure, and there is a large stigma around both. With more public education and advocacy, maybe we can change that stigma around our communities.

With my Dementia Care certification, I did learn a lot about how music and art can be beneficial for these people affected by Alzheimer's and Dementia - over half of which are women, by the way (over 61%) and this is a huge reason I wish to spend my time creating art with seniors around our community [ ]

Thank you to all the caregivers (family, medical, or other) who give a lot to care for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.
