Service Dog etiquette 101

Did you know that 90% of Service Dogs are for invisible illnesses?

What should you do when you see a Service Dog?

IGNORE IT!

It can be tempting to look or want to approach a dog after all, they are our furry best friends!

Imagine being a diabetic and having to stop multiple times to be asked personal questions such as:

What is your dog for?
What’s your dogs name?
Can I touch your dog?
What does your dog do?
Is that a real service dog?
Well what’s wrong with you?
Do you really need that dog?

Service Dogs are doing a very important role for their humans.

Service Dogs are medically required and prescribed by a Physician, Psychologist or Psychiatrist with specifications on what disabilities the Client has so that their K9 is trained and matched for their individal needs.

Often one can tell when someone is staring at them and their dog. It can be awkward and uncomfortable for someone who has a Service Dog to be put into such situations, please remember a Handler’s privacy when you see a working K9 team.

It’s been a huge year for our Canine Therapy Atl’s K9RubyTuesday who travelled a whopping 110 🤩 days in 2023 with her owner handler, CTFFR Atlantic’s Executive Canine Program Director Rhonda Langille of beautiful Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. Thank you K9 Ruby for the amazing work you do for us & Master Rhonda! Due to her special medical needs, Ms Ruby will remain within CTFFR as a helper to all she encounters.

Tomorrow we begin our 2023 Giving Tuesday campaign in an effort to raise $50,000 in six months.

Over our five years we have fundraised $67,000.00 and donated it 100% back to Veterans and First Responders with our K9 programs.

Canine Therapy Atl supports 57 paired K9 Teams across all 4 Atlantic Provinces, including 8 Facility dog teams working within Policing, Paramedics and Fire. In 2023, we grew by 23 new Members and their furry battle buddies.

100% of every dollar goes back into the program so that it can remain free & accessible to anyone.
