Brief Information about I Care for Moms (Yatta Maternal Health Clinic) in Caldwell, Liberia West Africa

Liberia faces some of the greatest challenges in the world in relation to access to women’s reproductive health. This gender-based inequality in health care affects both mothers and children. Trained medical professionals attend to fewer than half of all births (41%). For every 100,000 births, 770 women die. Each day in Liberia, approximately 1000 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth (350,000 annually). A child born in Liberia is 220 times more likely to die during its first day than one born in a first world country

UNICEF ranks Liberia in the top five countries for infant mortality. The World Health Organization reported that 27% of babies died at birth; 15% died before they reached one year of age, and in 2012 out 150,000 births 11,000 children died before they reached the age of 5.

Some causes of infant’s and mother’s deaths include delivering without medical assistance, lack of transportation to long distant hospitals/clinics located far from the community, numerous complications in pregnancy, lack of education regarding pregnancy, infant mortality, and infant malnutrition.

I Care For Moms is a non profit organization, established to provide a safe birthing clinic in Caldwell Liberia/ Africa, where women can receive proper medical care and support.
