🌿 Tyna Legault Taylor | Author of “Dad, Is It Time to Gather Mint?” 🌿

This week on Good Medicine, Tyna Legault Taylor shares her lifelong connection to plant and berry gathering, a tradition taught by her family and enriched through her husband’s teachings. She highlights the role of storytelling in preserving cultural knowledge and fostering pride among Indigenous youth.

Tyna discusses her children’s book, Dad, Is It Time to Gather Mint?, which chronicles her son Joshua’s learning journey and the intergenerational wisdom passed down in her family, including a glossary featuring Anishinaabemowin and Swampy Cree.
She also reflects on her work in food and water justice, the collaborative process of creating her book, and the importance of community engagement. Tyna emphasizes the healing power of traditional foods, sustainable harvesting, and being present in nature, and shares plans for future books exploring seasonal traditions such as moose hunting, goose harvesting, and rabbit snaring.

🌿 This week on Good Medicine with James Darren Corbiere…
We journey into how storytelling becomes medicine—mending gaps, sparking empathy, and inspiring growth on our collective path toward healing.

James, a visionary comic book creator and the mind behind the Truth and Reconciliation board game, shares his powerful work that opens eyes and hearts to Indigenous history and experience in Canada.

Through our conversation, he reflects on patience, resilience, and self-acceptance, and hopes his work deepens understanding and connection between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

We also explore the challenges and triumphs of bringing these stories to life—and the vital role his work plays in supporting Indigenous literacy.

🌊 Today, on Good Medicine with Squil‑le‑he‑le Raynell Morris…
We’re learning about the sacred journey of Sk'aliCh'elh‑tenaut—the orca once known as Tokitae and Lolita—and the powerful intersection of healing, ceremony, and environmental justice. 🐋🪶

In our soul-stirring conversation, we explore Resident Orca, the documentary tracing efforts to free Sk'aliCh'elh‑tenaut from the Miami Seaquarium and return her to the Salish Sea. Lummi Nation matriarch Raynell Morris shares how culture, ceremony, and community became a powerful current for change. ✨ We hear how the orca’s decades-long captivity mirrored a deeper trauma within Indigenous communities—and how song, prayer, and solidarity carried the hope for her homecoming. 🎶🕊️🤲

This is a story of 💔 love, 🌱 loss, and 💫 intergenerational healing. It’s a reminder that when we stand for the whales, we stand for our own future—and that our voices, like the orca’s song, are medicine. 🗣️🐚

🎙️ This week on Good Medicine…
We gather in a circle of story, song, and survival.

Meet Shailla Manitowabi-Cooke Winter — Indigenous artist, truth-teller, and survivor. 💔🌿
As a teen, she faced homelessness and heartbreak. In 2012, she went missing — trafficked, silenced… but not broken.

Through music, Shailla found her way back. Her debut single “If You Were Mine” is a soul-stirring blend of R&B and resilience — a song stitched with longing, strength, and truth.

Today, she stands as a voice for the Missing and Murdered, for survivors of gender-based violence, and for anyone who’s ever had to rise from the ashes.

🧠✨ In this conversation, we explore:
🎶 Music as medicine
🔥 Turning grief into gold
🪶 Culture, intuition & healing
🌀 Survivor’s guilt, trauma, and triumph

💬 “Let her story remind you: You are not alone. Your voice matters. And your strength… is medicine.”

Join FNHA’s Office of the Chief Medical Officer and BC’s Provincial Health Officer for a virtual 🎥 film screening and heartfelt dialogue, launching We Walk Together: Exploring Connection to Land, Water, and Territory.

Past regional gatherings in Fraser Salish, Northern, and Vancouver Coastal regions brought together Elders 👵🧓 and youth 👦👧 to share how land 🌍 and waters 💧 shape Indigenous wellness.

This initiative aims to inform a new wellness indicator—“connection to land”—rooted deeply in Indigenous knowledge 🌱 and cultural experience. Participants will help shape how BC measures and respects these profound connections in health practices.

It’s a powerful, cross-generational conversation about identity, resilience, and healing 🌟💖.

🌿 Good Medicine: Honouring Our Connection to Land 🌿
What does summer on the land look like for you?

Our friends at the First Nations Health Authority are inviting you to share your summer photos that celebrate your connection to land. This is more than a photo call — it’s a chance to uplift Indigenous relationships with the land, honour ancestral knowledge, and reflect on what grounds us.

🎙️✨ Today on Good Medicine with Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas…

We are learning about The Stand — the 1985 Haida blockade against industrial logging. 🌲✋ A moment etched into the bark of old-growth trees, carried in the hearts of those who were there ❤️, and now brought to the screen in the new National Film Board release: The Stand, directed by Christopher Auchter. 🎬🪶

Our special guest is Christopher’s uncle — a powerful knowledge keeper, visual artist, and one of the hearts behind this history — Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas. 🧠🎨🧓

Michael stood on the front lines of the 1985 blockade. Through him, we come to understand how a seemingly isolated act of defiance 🌊🌿 rippled into national and legislative change. 🧱📜 And how the calm, quiet strength of Indigenous people — especially guided by the elders 👣🦅 — created an unstoppable force of dignity. ✊

It’s easy to think of activism as loud, confrontational, chaotic 🔊⚡— but Michael reminds us that the most transformative movements are often the ones rooted in calm, clarity, and kinship. 🤝🧘‍♂️🌱

Michael will also share how this blockade was a masterclass in emotional intelligence — how humility and empathy 🤲❤️ led to unexpected alliances. The Stand, the film, is more than a documentary — Michael sees it as a workshop, a living, breathing resource. 🎥🌬️📚 A story that doesn’t just look backward, but forward ➡️🌅 — reminding us what’s possible when we lead with care, courage, and clarity. 🛶🔥💡

We’ll also hear about what Michael calls “undiluted potential” — the belief that just beyond the visible edge of things lies a future we haven’t dared to imagine yet. ✨🌌🌊
