Someone got a fancy new headshot 📸 so I figured I should take the opportunity to reintroduce her!

Kristie is a Canadian Certified Counsellor, a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC, and a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario.

Kristie is a mom who loves supporting other moms with parenting, relationship challenges, burnout, loss of identity, and more. She is perinatal mental health trained, EMDR trained, and draws from a number of evidence based approaches in supporting her clients.

I’m so happy to have her on the team and I think any prospective client would be so lucky to have her as a therapist 🥰

If you are seeking support in BC, SK, MB, AB, ON or NL, you can visit our website in bio to learn more about Kristie or book your first session with her!

Welcome to the team, Kristie!

It’s my pleasure to introduce you to our newest maternal mental health therapist, Kristie Burkett, RP (qualifying) - aka , go give her brand new page a follow !

Kristie is a Yorkville University MACP grad - she came to me in hopes of a practicum placement a while back, and although it didn’t work out, I’m so glad she reached back out post-practicum to join the team here at Luna!

Kristie is perinatal mental health trained, registered with CRPO, and soon to be registered with CCPA as well.

Kristie will be primarily serving ON and BC clients !

For more info on Kristie, her services, rates and billing, and to book with her online, head to www.lunacounselling.ca

Here’s a note from Kristie’s bio:

“My practice focuses on supporting moms through the emotional and psychological changes of pregnancy and the postpartum period, and beyond. I provide a safe, empathetic space for women dealing with anxiety, depression, or the multitude of feelings that can arise during this transformative time.

I also offer specialized support for mothers whose children face mental health challenges or neurodiversity. I understand the unique stressors and emotional burdens that come with parenting a child with conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, or other neurodevelopmental differences. My goal is to empower you with strategies to manage stress, enhance family dynamics, and advocate for your child’s needs while maintaining your own well-being.”

Women are being diagnosed with ADHD almost twice as much since before 2020. Seems we had a lot of time to obsessively research our symptoms on tiktok during the pandemic 😅

As it turns out, ADHD is not just bouncing off the walls and talking a mile a minute.

In fact, women and girls often have more internalized symptoms (rather than overt ones that are noticeable by others), so they tend to go undiagnosed in childhood.

We tend to function quite highly until we have kids, and enter a whole new world of overstimulation and care-task demands. Suddenly we can’t procrastinate on cleaning or forget about food, because we have tiny humans to keep alive.

These are just some of the ways ADHD can show up in women.

I’m so glad it’s become more talked about online, and more women are seeking diagnosis and support. Without discussion around this, we always just assumed it was normal and that everyone’s brain worked this way.

We can’t offer assessment and diagnosis here at Luna as of yet, but we can make recommendations on where to seek diagnosis, and can offer adhd coaching as part of your therapy case plan.

what can I expect from therapy?

There are probably too many benefits to list them all, but here’s 3 that come to mind:

1. Support

At the very least, you can expect a therapist to be an unbiased person who is dedicating an entire hour to hearing you out, and holding space for whatever you bring to session. How often do we get that kind of undivided attention from someone?!

2. Increased Self-Awareness

Typically, by taking that time to sort through our thoughts and feelings out loud, we tend to make some connections and find a deeper understanding for ourselves.

3. Coping Strategies

There are many different styles of therapy, but most (if not all) of them will teach you some skills to deal with life’s challenges and regulate your nervous system.

EMDR 👀

Angela is working through her basic training and looking to take on a few new clients who have specific interest in trying EMDR therapy.

Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) works by facilitating the brain’s natural healing process. Through guided eye-movement or other bilateral stimulation (such as tapping - clients tend more towards this option), it helps reprocess distressing memories and reduce their emotional charge.

EMDR is most commonly used for trauma, but can also be helpful with a wide range of issues, such as anxiety, phobias, grief, self-esteem and more.

If this is something you have been interested in trying, comment “interested” - or send us a DM, or you can book yourself online at the link in bio. Please check the website for further info on which insurance Angela can take and provinces she can practice in.

Although Angela is new to this form of therapy, and still undergoing consultation hours and training, her clients have had a lot of success trying it thus far, and she’s eager to offer it to more women who are willing to learn along with her 🥰
