September 30, 2024 marks the fourth annual National Day for Truth and Reconcilitation. Today and every day, I honour the residential school survivors, their families, descendants, communities, and those that did not make it home.

As far as I know, residential schools did not directly impact my Métis family. This does not mean I am immune to the greater and long-standing colonial efforts of Indigenous erasure through genocide, corrupt policies, and unfulfilled treaties.

Today I will pause, feel, wear my orange shirt and attend the elder’s story project at . I encourage you to engage in this day in a way that is meaningful to you. We are all part of the healing.

Red Dress Day ❤️

Did you know that statistically Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people are four times more likely to experience violence in their lifetime as opposed to their non-Indigenous counterparts? Four. Times.

Let that sink in.

Today (May 5) is Red Dress Day, a day to honour and raise awareness about the way too many Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people who have gone missing or murdered. I (and Wilfred) am wearing red and my pin to take a stance against gender-based violence.

Want your own moose hide pin? I have some on hand and there is a bunch at the counselling office I work out of - . You can also order a free batch of your own through the link in my bio!

Today marks the third annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Without truth and action, reconciliation would never be possible. Thank you to and for hosting such powerful and meaningful events and talks centred around the truth about residential schools and action-based pathways forward.

My art therapy career is taking a slight greatly welcomed turn!

I was recently approached by the Winnipeg Holistic Expressive Arts Therapy Institute () to work with them, instructing courses and reading/advising students on their Indigenous-based art therapy thesis work.

Over the extended weekend I completed instructing a 4 day, 32 hour intensive course, Decolonizing Trauma in Art Therapy. I was so awe-struck by the vastness of collective knowledge in the group and deep willingness to dive into difficult topics. Today I set on a new journey co-instructing a 10-week course, Cultural Awareness and Intersectionality Within the Therapeutic Arts. I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds!

Contributing to the field has always been a passion of mine. I am so grateful for this opportunity to help guide and mentor future art therapists.
