A new systematic review supported by Praxis highlights the unique challenges of breastfeeding after a SCI.

Women with higher-level injuries (above T6) tend to breastfeed less frequently and may face complications such as difficulties with the let-down reflex and autonomic dysreflexia. Reported breastfeeding rates vary widely—from 11% to 100%—underscoring the need for greater awareness among healthcare providers and support for new mothers with SCI.

In July, a five-day workshop at the Rivne Regional War Veterans Hospital was conducted to bring together 5 multidisciplinary teams from hospitals across Ukraine to strengthen spinal cord injury (SCI) rehabilitation knowledge. Led by clinical experts from Canada, the U.S., and Australia, the program focused on training future trainers and advancing standardized SCI clinical approaches in Ukraine.

Praxis is pleased to share the work of our Regional Clinical Liaison, Shannon Rockall, OT who was a clinical expert on this initiative in Rivne, Ukraine. With over 25 years of experience in spinal cord injury rehabilitation, Shannon worked alongside local healthcare professionals to support care for individuals with complex, war-related injuries.

Despite challenging circumstances, Shannon says she was struck by the resilience and determination of the Ukrainian people. Her contributions highlight Praxis’s ongoing commitment to advancing spinal cord injury care and sharing best practices.
