May 4-10 is the Canadian Mental Health Association’s annual Mental Health Week. Now more than ever, we need to reach out to one another, about how we feel and lean on others for support.

During challenging times like these, communities must come together to help one another. We must support those most vulnerable — older individuals and the immunocompromised. We recognize that it may be difficult for these individuals to go out shopping for groceries, or to pick up prescriptions. Durham — let’s rise to the challenge and support each other.

If you are unable to leave your home to pick up essential supplies, please leave a comment below. If you are able to help out your neighbours and those in the community, please direct message those who leave a comment below asking for help.

Mental health and wellness are critical to the well-being of the individual, their family and the community. In the last few years the stigma associated with talking about mental wellness is diminishing as conversations let people get the help they need. Those conversations turn to seeking supports for mental wellness and that is where the Durham Wellness Hub comes in. Our hub is a way for people to search for information about mental wellness supports and to bring together providers and advocates in one place to turn conversation into action.

Talk leads to community supports at the Durham Wellness Hub.

- Hon. Erin O'Toole, Member of Parliament - Durham
