Cosmetic or facial rejuvenation acupuncture can increase collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, brighten the complexion and lift sagging muscles. This area of treatment has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for hundreds of years, even dating back to the Song Dynasty. Because TCM aims to restore any imbalances in the body, the patient receives the added benefit of enhancing their overall health while improving their complexion.

Both acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments can be used to support people experiencing increased difficulty in breathing or other complaints that are increasing severity in allergy symptoms. Treatments can be done during poor air quality for acute complaints or they can be done after air quality improves for any symptoms left over from exposure. It is estimated that about 1 in 10 women have Endometriosis. It's a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside of the uterus, usually in the pelvic cavity. Some women may have no symptoms, while others can have many, including severe and debilitating pain, abdominal masses, adhesions and infertility.

Western treatment can include medications and/or surgery (laparoscopy) to remove the adhesions or masses that have grown due of the condition. Unfortunately, these growths can often return after a period of time post surgery.

If a woman with the condition is trying to conceive, she is often recommended to attempt trying in the months directly following the laparoscopic surgery. This gives her the best chances of conceiving before adhesions or masses return. The problem with the medications is that while trying to conceive, she is unable to take them.

This is where Traditional Chinese Medicine can be so useful. TCM can help relieve symptoms, slow the progression or recurrence of the disease, as well as improve chances of conception. Treatment is generally more effective when combining acupuncture with Chinese herbs; this can mean weekly or twice weekly acupuncture treatments along with taking a Chinese herbal formula daily. Usually a period of 2-3 months of treatment will show improvements in the condition. After this time, acupuncture treatments can usually be less often, and a herbal formula can be administered periodically to slow the recurrence.

If a woman is wanting to get pregnant, it's often recommended she not attempt to conceive for the first 2-3 months of TCM treatment or until symptoms improve, in order to improve the environment of the reproductive organs before conceiving. This is a time where the TCM practitioner can also help improve the overall health of the patient, as well as address an other imbalances of the yin, blood, qi and yang. Once this is a achieved, a protocol to promote pregnancy at the same time as controlling the endometriosis is given.

Qi is the life force or energy of all living things, both material and immaterial. ⁣

Movement of Qi in the form of exercise is one of the best ways to encourage proper Qi flow and production in the body. ⁣

When we don't have enough physical movement, Qi can stagnate, leading to common symptoms such as fatigue or stress.

Herbs are an important focus in our clinic and we currently have around 250 individual herbs in granular form. In the Chinese pharmacopeia though, there are upwards of 500 herbs.

A classical Chinese herbal formula is chosen by the trained practitioner based on the presenting patterns and specific complaints the patient has.

Next, the formula may be modified based on the specific needs of the patient. This is done by changing dosages of the individual herbs, adding additional herbs, or taking certain herbs out of the formula.

This customization helps make the prescription more effective in its ability to treat the specific symptoms at hand as well as any underlying imbalances the patient may have, based on TCM diagnosis.

Although many classical Chinese herbal formulas date back nearly 2000 years, they still play an important and relevant role in the clinical practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine today.

Low energy is one of the more common reasons a person would consider seeing an acupuncturist.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, a scalloped tongue indicates poor energy production in the body. This leads to fluids not being metabolized fast enough, meaning that energy production of the body is too low for proper metabolism.

The tongue in Chinese Medicine is one of the diagnostic tools used to assess a person's condition and complaints along with pulse diagnosis. The coating, colour, shape and sublingual veins of the tongue are examined to help differentiate the pattern. All the information gathered from the tongue and pulse will become part of the treatment plan created by your acupuncturist. The tongue and pulse change with treatment making them a great barometer for feedback during the treatment course.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, poor recovery from training can be a symptom of liver blood deficiency. This pattern refers to inadequate levels of blood supply to nourish the tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body.

Some of the main causes of liver blood deficiency are:
-poor sleep
-excessive physical activity
-blood loss
-not consuming enough blood building
foods

When it comes to diet, eating liver is king!
It's one of the top blood building foods in TCM. Is there relevance to eating specific organs for the health of your own organs?
TCM thinks so!
