can enter residential homes in a variety of ways. This includes cracks, windows, drains, and showers.

What is radon and why is it a concern you may ask? Radon is something we should not ignore as it's a radioactive gas that is present in at least small amounts in every Canadian home.

The amount in each home can vary greatly but it is known that about 7% of Canadian homes do contain high levels of radon. Long-term exposure to high levels of radon creates a serious health risk as it is a carcinogen for lung cancer.

is a radioactive gas found naturally in the environment. It is created through the breakdown of soil and rocks. When outdoors it's not a health risk, however, that's a different story in enclosed spaces like one's home.

At high levels, radon is carcinogenic and can greatly increase the risk for the development of lung cancer. Learn more about radon through machealth's free + certified course https://buff.ly/38q9XUN

What is an asthma action plan and why is it important?

An asthma action plan is a personalized tool that aids patients with the self-management of their asthma.

The asthma action plan follows a traffic light system (green, yellow, and red zones).

Green zone = Maintain therapy

Yellow zone = Step-up therapy

Red zone = Get help now

The different zones help patients determine their level of health, guiding them on the appropriate steps they should be taking.

In Canada, it is believed that heat-related illnesses are underreported by patients, clients, and healthcare workers.

As a result, we likely do not realize the true extent of the consequences heat has on the health of the Canadian population.

It’s important that we pay more attention to extreme heat events and their consequences as they can be quite severe.

Extreme heat events may cause heat-related illnesses such as heat edema, heat syncope, and heat stroke, as well as intensify certain pre-existing chronic conditions.

Learn more about extreme heat events in this free machealth course:
