🧠💪 What if the goal wasn’t just to live longer… but to live better?

That’s the future of healthcare—and it’s already here. 🚀

We’re shifting from disease management to healthspan—the number of years you stay strong, active, sharp, and independent. This is where Health Care 3.0 begins.

It’s not about waiting for illness. It’s about building physical, mental, and emotional resilience now, so you can live vibrantly for years to come.

In my latest blog, I share:

✅ Why lifespan gains are stalling
✅ The difference between “sick care” and true health care
✅ How wellness-focused practitioners can help extend your healthspan

If this resonates, the blog is live now — link in bio. 👆

Let’s build a future where you don’t just add years to your life, but life to your years.

This week we look at Melanoma; the most dangerous form of skin cancer and how early detection can save lives!

Use the ABCDE Rule when checking moles:
🅰 Asymmetry – halves don’t match
🅱 Border – irregular or blurred edges
🅲 Colour – uneven colour throughout
🅳 Diameter – larger can be riskier
🅴 Evolving – any change in size, colour, or symptoms

✅ Take photos to track changes
✅ Ask a partner to check hard-to-see areas like your back
✅ Get suspicious spots checked ASAP

Enjoy the sun safely—protect your skin with clothing, shade, and mineral sunscreen.

☀️ Stay sun-smart this summer!

🧴Mineral or Chemical Sunscreen?
What’s really getting absorbed into your body?

A 2019 study in JAMA found that common chemical sunscreen ingredients—like oxybenzone—can enter your bloodstream at levels far above what the FDA considers safe. 😳

So, what should you do?
☀️ For high UV exposure or preventing burns? Use something.
🧒 For daily use, especially on kids? I go mineral-based—every time.

✅ Safer ingredients (like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide)
✅ Sit on your skin, don’t soak in
✅ Better for long-term health

It might be a little pricier or leave a white cast—but it’s worth it.

☀️ Are You Getting Enough Vitamin D3? 💊

This week on the WellnessDoc Blog, Dr. Darrell dives into why most people need to supplement with Vitamin D3—especially here in the north!

🌥️ Not enough sun?
🍽️ Not eating liver and onions (can’t blame you)?
💪 Low magnesium levels?

All of these can limit your body’s ability to make Vitamin D3—and that matters for your immune system, mood, muscles, and more.

Dr. Darrell shares:
✔️ Why magnesium matters
✔️ How much D3 you might need
✔️ Why skin tone + body fat affect your dose
✔️ Why minimum levels just don’t cut it

This week’s weekly Q&A with Dr. Darrell - Is the sun good for you or bad? When to use sunscreen and what type? What to watch out for on your skin. What about Vitamin D? Why the answer to these questions is different from person to person and also depends of your family history.

There have been some interesting studies that show that people in high sun-exposure jobs have less skin cancer than those who sit in offices all day. It appears sun exposure itself is far from the whole story. A family history of melanoma (the most dangerous type of skin cancer) along with a very fair skin tone put you at higher risk.

There may be some selection bias in that people who burn easily are not attracted to jobs with high degrees of sun exposure. So before we start saying sun exposure is protective of skin cancer we have to keep that in mind.

Skin tones are separated into six types from very white (always burns) to black skin (always tans). The very white skin is more prone to skin cancer so some form of protection from the sun seems to more important in those people.

🧠💪 This week’s Q&A with Dr. Darrell: Are supplements the answer to inflammation?

We talk a lot about reducing chronic inflammation because it plays a huge role in preventing cancer, heart disease, and dementia.

You’ve probably heard that fish oil, curcumin, and probiotics can help. And it’s true—they can support inflammation reduction. But here’s the catch: they’re the least important strategy on the list.

✅ Get regular exercise
✅ Improve your diet
✅ Prioritize sleep
❗️Then consider supplements

As the saying goes:

“Don’t major in the minor and minor in the major.” Start with the big 3 habits. Supplements can help—but they’ll never replace a healthy lifestyle.
