Music Share for Seniors

Music Share provides access to new and meaningful relationships built around shared experience and a love of music.

Music Share is a new program that connects student volunteers with elderly persons who are feeling isolated so that they may, together, converse about and explore music. The volunteer and the senior participant explore music treasured by the participant via an iPad and a wireless speaker (materials provided by Music Share). The music acts as an access point to stimulate dialogue and trigger moments of lucidity in people who may be well into their later years. This exchange benefits seniors as they receive increased one-on-one attention, are reintroduced to music they may have not heard in years, and are shown ways to retrieve this media on their own (if they so choose). The program also benefits the volunteers by breaking down barriers that divide young and old. Thus enabling the volunteers to build relationships with community members they would have never been exposed to otherwise, resulting in more sympathetic and compassionate youth.

We’re thrilled to announce that Music Share for Seniors has been awarded a $20,000 grant through the TD Ready Commitment! 🌟 This generous support will fuel our growth throughout 2025, helping us expand our reach and reconnect more seniors to their music history.

Through the TD Ready Commitment, TD is investing in community programs that strengthen Connected Communities, supporting arts and music initiatives that bring people together and amplify diverse voices.

With TD’s support, Music Share for Seniors will:

• Broaden program access and invite more seniors to participate
• Foster intergenerational creative expression and community engagement
• Deepen social connection through shared musical experiences

🎶 Meet Maria!

A proud Portuguese senior and beloved participant, Maria lights up when she hears the soulful sounds of Fado music - a genre that speaks to her heritage, memories, and heart.

But her playlist doesn’t stop there! Maria is also a huge fan of Elvis Presley, and nothing gets her tapping her feet quite like “All Shook Up.” 💃🎸

Through personalized playlists, we’re able to honour Maria’s culture and story by creating moments of joy, connection, and reflection with every song.

Here’s to music that reminds us who we are and where we come from. 💛

🎉 Exciting news! Music Share for Seniors has been awarded a $10,000 grant through Toronto Foundation’s Vital Signs Grants program to support our organizational development throughout 2025. Toronto’s Vital Signs Grants are designed to uplift small, high-impact community organizations by building internal capacity and addressing inequities in Toronto.

We’re honoured to join the 27 organizations selected in 2025 - representing grassroots leaders shaping Toronto’s future with a bold vision and meaningful action.💫

Meet Russell.

Before a life-changing accident, he was an MC — a true performer who lived for hip hop.

Today, Russell lives in long-term care. He doesn’t always communicate with words, but when we play his favourite songs… everything changes.

When he hears Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, Eminem, 2PAC, or Dr Dre — his eyes light up. His lips start moving. He finds his rhythm.

This is the power of music. It reconnects us with ourselves, even when our world has shifted in ways we never expected.
