A deductible is a set dollar amount you must pay before an insurer starts making benefit payments.

For example, if Natalie has a health plan with a $50 annual deductible, and she visits her massage therapist which costs $180, then she’ll need to pay the first $50, leaving $130 eligible for reimbursement.

Annual deductibles only apply to the first claim in a year, so she won’t have to pay the $50 on any future claims that year.

Deductibles can apply to coverage for the entire plan, across certain benefits, or a combination of both. Go to your Member Profile at pac.bluecross.ca/Member to see details of your plan.

Did you know: Pacific Blue Cross Emergency Medical travel plans have zero deductible, meaning that you’ll be reimbursed from the first dollar!

Pacific Blue Cross is proud to support the incredible work of the Burnaby USAR team, including their latest humanitarian deployment to help those in Jamaica severely affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Under the direction of the Jamaica Defence Force, the Burnaby Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team worked in some of the hardest-hit regions, conducting search operations, welfare checks, and humanitarian assistance for communities struggling in the storm’s aftermath.

Their presence brought relief, reassurance, and vital support to families navigating immense hardship.

Pacific Blue Cross was honoured to support this mission by providing free travel insurance for the Burnaby USAR team during their deployment.

If you don’t have employer benefits but you’re generally healthy, you might think personal health insurance isn’t necessary and consider saving for unexpected health costs instead.

But it’s important to know that MSP may not cover as much as you think.

MSP covers essential services like doctor visits, hospital procedures and diagnostic tests such as x-rays - but doesn’t include routine dental care or most prescription drugs.

These out-of-pocket costs can add up quickly, especially if you’re also missing work and income while receiving treatment or recovering.

Have you had a dental check-up in the last 6 months? 🦷

Check-ups are important for catching problems early, before they cause serious, potentially expensive issues.

For most people, this means a trip to the dentist every 6 months for a routine exam.

If you have a dental plan with Pacific Blue Cross, check your coverage by logging in at pac.bluecross.ca/Member. Make the most of your benefits and keep your smile healthy!

✨ What an inspiring day! Thank you to everyone who joined us at the 2025 Health Care Forum last week.

From Jann Arden's powerful keynote, to the eye-opening Menopause Chicks with Shirley Weir workshop, to the announcement of our new partnerships delivering midlife health support – we moved the conversation on women’s health in the workplace from awareness to action.

Together, we explored how workplaces can break stigma, embrace evidence, and create environments where women in midlife not only stay, but thrive.

Thank you to all leaders, advocates and changemakers who joined us. 💡 The message was clear: supporting women’s health at work isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s essential for building stronger, more inclusive organizations.

Pacific Blue Cross is committed to championing women’s health, through benefit design, education and partnerships – learn more: pac.bluecross.ca/womenshealth

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we take pause to honour the survivors of the residential school system, the children who never returned home, and their families and communities.

As BC’s health benefits society, we have a responsibility to help address health gaps and improve access to equitable care, as the legacy of residential schools and systemic inequities continues to impact Indigenous communities today. We strive to achieve this through our partnerships, DEI initiatives, and support for local, Indigenous-led health and wellness programs.

To support reflection and learning for our members, plan sponsors and providers, we’ve partnered with the First Nations Health Authority to develop an Indigenous Awareness elearning module, which is completely free to access and share: pac.bluecross.ca/company/diversity-equity-inclusion/
