I'm always trying new breakfast recipes and this one was a hit. We aren't a pumpkin spice family but the apple cinnamon hit the spot 😋

Apple Cinnamon Protein Muffins:

Ingredients:
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
- 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup (I used maple syrup)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose or gluten free flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cup diced apple (peeled or unpeeled)
- Optional: 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350F
2. In large mixing bowl, combine all wet ingredients. Whisk until smooth and well blended.
3. In a separate bowl, mix all dry ingredients.
4. Slowly add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix. Do not over mix.
5. Fold in diced apple and nuts if you are using them.
6. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes.
7. Cool and enjoy!

I am a big believer that small changes make a big differences and I love when I have studies to support my recommendations. 🙌

A new study out of Nanjing, China found that pregnant women who consumed more eggs, fish and dairy products were 45% less likely to develop gestational diabetes whereas women who consumed unprocessed red meats had a significant increase in gestational diabetes risk. 🥚🍣🧀

This study really shows that more research is needed to explore the relationship between diet and nutrition and pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes. It reminds us that food is the foundation of health and we should care about the types of foods we consume and their quality. This study is an example of correlation and we have yet to determine if the relationship is causative. Regardless, knowledge is power and it's empowering to know that you can actively support yours and your baby's health in pregnancy. 🤰💪

If you have any specific questions about gestational diabetes, drop a comment. If you're in Ontario and want specific recommendations be sure to reach out for a complimentary consultation. Visits are covered by extended health insurance so if you have benefits you can take advantage of them. 👇☝️

We get caught up in the minuche of our day-to-day and so often second guess ourselves. 🤔

Am I a good mother? Wife? Friend? Professional? 😬

No one is expecting perfection. This is your reminder to give yourself some credit because I promise you, there is another mom watching you and wondering how you do it all. ❤️✨

I had to get on this trend. I remember being pregnant with Avery and my husbands friends told him:

"She won't be able to handle it" 😳
"She's going to beg for an epidural" 😱

My husband didn't know what to expect but he believed in me. He had taken the prenatal classes and was equipped with a variety of tools (and a fantastic doula!) to help me through the intensity of contractions. We practiced breathing techniques while holding ice cubes and I often showed him different acupressure points that were known to be effective at taking the edge off.

It was like training for a marathon 🏃‍♀️

We debated for 8.5 months about where we would deliver. It was either labour at home for as long as possible and head to the hospital as late into labour as I safely could or have a home birth. 2 weeks before my estimated due date we agreed to roll with the punches and prepared for both scenarios. I was fortunate to have a textbook labour and since things were progressing and I was managing contractions so well it made sense to stay at home. After 6 hours of active labour, Avery was born. It was the most empowering experience of my life. 💪

Unmedicated birth and certainly home birth is not for everyone. It IS like training for a marathon. Having a doula can reduce the likelihood of intervention but having a partner who is well prepared and confident to support you is essential.

I review comfort measure techniques with all of my patients with plenty of time for them to practice and refine their technique. Patients leave feeling confident and prepared.🙌

I'm thinking about hosting a small group workshop for couples who want to learn about comfort measures for labour and birth. $99 per couple and covered by extended health insurance. Is this a workshop you would attend? Please complete the poll and let me know. The first workshop will take place in November.

One quick tip I often share with my patients who are experiencing hot flashes is to focus on balancing their blood sugar. When blood sugar levels dip, it triggers an adrenal response that leads to the release of the stress, hormone, cortisol, and thus results in a hot flash. When it happens at night, you get night sweats, night waking or both! 😩

Emphasizing protein in your diet is a simple way to stabilize blood sugar levels and prevent a hot flash. Consuming high fibre foods and whole grains can also prevents spikes and dips.

Will this completely solve your hot flash horrors? I wish it were that simple. While it can certainly help, there are other hormonal factors to consider and support. The good thing is that there are some pretty amazing and well studied supplements on the market. Other treatments like acupuncture can also be highly effective. 🙌

If you would like more information about how to support your hormones in perimenopause or menopause, be sure to check out the link in my bio or reach out for a complementary consultation. visits are available online or in person and are covered by extended health insurance. ☝️☝️☝️

It's been a quick minute since I last posted and a while since I introduced myself. For those of you who are new here, Hey! It's so nice to have you. For those who have been following me for a while, thanks for sticking around. 🙏🫶

Naturopathic medicine has always been my passion and it's hard to believe that I've been practicing for 15 years. I love working with patients to create strategic and integrative plans that make sense and lead to results. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing patients achieve their health goals and overcome their health concerns. I always feel honoured to be a part of their journey. 🙌 ✨

When I'm not seeing patients, I'm focused on my family. My husband and I recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary! We are currently planning a family trip to Costa Rica with our girls to commemorate it. ✈️

Some fun facts about me: I am a dedicated dance mom, a lover of all things travel and eager to turn moments into memories by snapping photos and taking videos. The days are long but the years are fleeting and I want to hold onto all of it. 🩰🏝️📸🥹

On Halloween of 2024 I lost my dad. It was the biggest loss I've ever experienced. It's one of the reasons I've been quiet on instagram this year and from time to time you may see me post about him. Not my usual content but a way for me to keep his memory alive. While we are heading into the one year mark of his decline and eventual passing, I feel ready to start sharing content once again. My focus is to share my knowledge, inspire my community and show you that small, strategic changes can make the biggest difference in your and your families health. 💔💫

Drop a comment and let me know if there is something specific you want me to talk about. Starting next week, I'll be back at it so stay tuned!

Every year I share my personal story of pregnancy loss. No one wants to be a part of this club yet so many of us are.

Its emotionally draining and physically taxing
..And it can feel so so lonely. 💔

This is why I dedicate so much of my practice to fertility optimization and helping to grow families.

I've been there.

I see you.

You are not alone ❤️

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms, step moms, mother-in-laws, grandma's and moms to be. ❤️

I hope you're feeling spoiled like the Queen that you are!👸

Today, I'm feeling grateful for my girls for choosing me to be their mom. Just like I always tell them, I am so lucky. ✨

Thank you for always being the best partner in crime. I cant imagine this journey of motherhood without you by my side. 👫

To my mom and Mother-in-law (who won't see this but deserve the shout out), I can only strive to be as wonderful as you. Thank you for always being there, for always showing up and for your unconditional love. 💗
