The Ten Axioms of Choice Theory

There is a philosophy that life is a series of choices that determine your future. Every time you make a decision, it is based on making a choice between at least two alternatives. Even the choice to do nothing has an effect on the direction of your life. This is an explanation of human behavior developed by Dr. William Glasser, M.D.

1. The only person whose behavior we can control is our own.
2. All we can give another person is information.
3. All long-lasting psychological problems are relationship problems.
4. The problem relationship is always part of our present life.
5. What happened in the past has everything to do with what we are today, but we can only satisfy our basic needs right now and plan to continue satisfying them in the future.
6. We can only satisfy our needs by satisfying the pictures in our Quality World.
7. All we do is behave.
8. All behavior is Total Behavior and is made up of four components: acting, thinking, feeling and physiology.
9. All Total Behavior is chosen, but we only have direct control over the acting and thinking components. We can only control our feeling and physiology indirectly through how we choose to act and think.
10. All Total Behavior is designated by verbs and named by the part that is the most recognizable.

RULES VS LAWS:

The world if full of rules and laws. In most cases you cannot change laws and usually have to follow them. Rules however, are imposed by family, friends and society. RULES CAN BE CHALLENGED. Rules represent someone trying to impose a set values or course of action on an individual. They should be a guideline rather than a requirement. Individuals working toward a limitless life style should challenge and review every rule they experience. Some you may choose to keep while others you will discard. Play, laugh, joke, dream, dance, etc. Stop being so serious and have some fun. We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.

At any age, we should be reviewing our actions. We need to ensure that the choices made lead us in a direction that is better than our starting point.

Parents should explore their relationship with their kids, even if they are now adults. Building a new relationship with them can be amazing. Showing them you are active can open up all sorts of possibilities.

HOW IS IT GOING?

Reaching your goals and determining what you want is rewarding. The actions taken are designed to improve the quality of your life. The end result of this process is to help everyone reach a happy and healthy state of mind.

While the steps have been laid out, the process is very difficult. Setbacks, pitfalls and challenges
present themselves every day.

As needed, it is necessary to back to basics and confirm your goals. Use your best friend or family member to confirm what you are trying to do. It is very easy to lose the way if you get distracted
by daily activities. There is also the ongoing pressure to please family members or close friends who focus on what they need instead of what you need. It may seem that being limitless requires selfishness. However, it is not selfish to want to achieve goals
or take part in life in your own way. Being limitless does not exclude friends and family. It is designed to improve your self worth, pride and core beliefs. This will make you a better friend or partner to the people that are important to you.

Keep up the good work. Remember to do something every day to bring you a step closer to a goal. If the goals are important, they are worth the wait.

BUYING UGLY FRUIT AND VEGGIES AND SUPPORTING LOCAL FARMERS - HAMILTON, NIAGARA.
Anyone who’s gardened or tried to grow their own food will admit that there is no such thing as perfection when it comes to Mother Nature - especially fruits and veggies. Alot of us are picky when choosing our produce and it’s the less-than-perfect-looking crops often get left behind, plowed under or used for animal feed.
In the last few years, “ugly” produce has come into the spotlight as consumers become more aware of the issues around food waste and its impact on the environment. Up to 40% of fruit and vegetable waste can be attributed to cosmetic standards. I really love the idea that some of the less attractive fruits and veggies are packaged at a discount or sent to be made into products such as juices, soups, or jams, but there are now more companies than ever dedicated to making use of these pieces of produce.
In the London, Ontario, FoodFund helps reduce waste by sourcing imperfect produce from local farmers.
I am totally on board with getting rid of the stigma against ‘ugly’ produce! I don’t know if Hamilton has any organization or plans to sell this type of fruit or veggie. If there is, I hope that we all support our local farmers.

It is time to start to think about having fun. Once the snow has gone, it might be a good idea to plan some trips. You deserve it. If you are not happy about leaving Canada, there is lots to do and explore in Ontario.

Here are some suggestions.

#1 - WHITE WATER WALK – NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO

Experience a first-hand lesson in the raw power and peril of the Niagara River’s Class 6 white-water rapids. The roar of the river provides a deceptive calmness, the perfect ambiance for your walk among the many viewing platforms that put you right at the river’s edge. For those looking for an up-close and personal view of nature’s power, you will not want to miss this. This self-guided tour includes many stories about the geology of the Niagara Gorge and the plant and animal life you may see on your visit to Niagara Parks. The Niagara White Water Walk is a wheelchair accessible 305 metre boardwalk situated on the edge of Niagara’s white water rapids. The Niagara Gorge is an 11km (6.8 miles) gorge created by the Niagara River. Around 18,000 years ago, Southern Ontario was covered by ice 2-3 km thick (1.2 – 1.9 miles).

#2 - Kakabeka Falls – THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO

The falls are an easy drive from Thunder Bay and worth a visit, the car park is close bay and their is a good board walk giving you good views of the falls.

There are viewing platforms on both sides of the falls giving great photo opportunities of the falls and the gorge, and if you pick a sunny day the rainbow effect from the spray is amazing if you can catch it.

#3 - Cheltenham Badlands – CALEDON, ONTARIO

The Cheltenham Badlands are located in Caledon, Ontario on the south east side of Olde Base Line Road, between Creditview and Chinguacousy Roads. The site occupies an area of approximately 0.4 square kilometers and features exposed and highly eroded Queenston Shale.[1] The Cheltenham Badlands are a significant educational site due to the readily visible geologic processes and the red color and the unique topography of the exposed shale makes this a popular tourist site.

#4 - Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park – THUNDER BAY

National Parks, Canyons; Spectacular and dizzying are the words to describe the steep-sided canyons of this rugged and scenic region. Address: Ouimet Canyon Road, Dorion, Ontario P0T 2M0.

Absolutely stunning view. Easy quick trail from the parking area. Please read the Ojibwe story of Nanabozho before you go. He ties into a lot of the history in the Thunder Bay area (sleeping giant, kakabeka falls).

#5 - Bonnechere Caves – Eganville ONTARIO

The Bonnechere Caves is a big name in cave exploration in Ontario. This family-owned and operated site is a sure wonder that draws people in with its stunning fossils and unique cave system. Hidden away in the Bruce Peninsula, this natural cave system is a place of peace and tranquillity with a rugged atmosphere. The Bonnechere Caves in Eganville ON. have been welcoming people from all over the world for over 55 years. We provide a safe, educational, informative and fun tour for people of all ages. Everyone from babies in backpacks to senior citizens have enjoyed the handiwork of Mother Nature here along the beautiful Bonnechere River..

Bonnechere : May 21, 2021 to October 12, 2021 : Facilities and Activities summary. Before you visit: check what facilities/activities are available and pack what you need (e.g. water, snacks, mask/face covering, and hand sanitizer).

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO IMPROVE OR REDUCE CLIMATE CHANGE?

Reduce emissions : (Most of us try to do this)
Use your car less, whenever possible, instead use sustainable transportation, such as bicycling, or use public transportation more often. In the case of long-distance travel, trains are more sustainable than airplanes

Save energy:

Take a look at the labels on your appliances, and never leave them on standby. Always adjust the thermostat for heating and air conditioning.

Reduce: consume less, more efficiently.

Reuse: take advantage of second-hand markets, to give new life to items that you don't use anymore or find something that someone else has gotten rid of that you need. You'll be saving money and reducing your consumption. Bartering is also a practical solution.

Recycle: packaging, waste from electronics.

Eat low-carbon (I did not know the one about beef)

A low-carbon diet results in smarter consumption:

- Reduce your meat consumption (livestock is one of the biggest contaminators of the atmosphere) and increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables.
- Eat food that is local and in season: read the label and eat food that is produced in the area, avoid imports which create more emissions due to transportation. Also, eat seasonal items, to avoid less sustainable production methods.
- Avoid excessive packaging and processed foods as much as possible.

Act against forest loss

- As far as possible, avoid anything that may be a fire hazard.
- If you want to buy wood, choose wood with a certification or seal showing its sustainable origin.
- Plant a tree!

CLIMATE CHANGE - Earth's climate has changed throughout history. Just in the last 650,000 years there have been seven cycles of glacial advance and retreat, with the abrupt end of the last ice age about 11,700 years ago marking the beginning of the modern climate era — and of human civilization. Most of these climate changes are attributed to very small variations in Earth’s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives.

HOWEVER, Direct observations made on and above Earth’s surface show the planet’s climate is significantly changing. Human activities are the primary driver of those changes.

20/05/2021

China has decided to cancel the 2021 spring climbing season from the Tibetan side of Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak, because of coronavirus concerns, the official Xinhua news agency said on Saturday.

It cited a notice on Friday from the General Administration of Sport, following a severe pandemic situation.

The Himalayan nation of Nepal, which is so short of oxygen canisters it has asked mountaineers to bring back their empties, has issued a record 408 permits to climb Everest in the April-May season after last year’s closure.

In contrast, a total of 21 Chinese climbers had secured approval for climbs in spring, Xinhua added.

Last Sunday, state media said China would establish “a line of separation” at the summit of Everest to prevent the mingling of climbers from Nepal and those ascending from the Tibetan side as a precautionary measure.

MENTORING – PART 2

I posted thoughts on mentoring in June with the hope of encouraging people to help someone. As we quickly approach the holiday season, I believe it is even more important. It has been a hard year for everyone. We are all facing challenges in our lives. I suggest that each of us find someone who is family or a friend/acquaintance that might need a boost to know they are not alone.

Mentoring is the support and encouragement of people to manage their knowledge and development in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be.

Many people are feeling depressed because they have been at home and/or have not accomplished their goals this year. There have been many cases identified this year that confirm that there is a COVID depression that can be paired up with a situational depression. Mentoring someone can help reduce this depression. We have all been isolated from others with many of us are working from home. Some have lost their jobs and are trying to determine what they should do at this point. Helping them to uncover an opportunity such as learning a new skill or trying a new hobby can improve their overall situation.

Part of being a good mentor is to listen to the person you are trying to help. Allowing a person to speak will help them formulate their thoughts. Communication is based on speaking and listening. The aspect of listening is a key to your success when you are mentoring someone. Think about having a 10 minute rule. When someone is talking to you, give them the courtesy of listening for 5 to 10 minutes. At that point, think and respond to them. This shows that you respect their opinion or thought. You can then truly hear what they have to say and respond with your thoughts or questions to clarify what they have stated.

It is hoped that this post challenges people. It is my hope that you take the time to reach out and mentor someone. Remember, knowing that someone cares about someone is very important. It can make the difference.

COVID-19 – A WORLD WIDE RESET

The onset of COVID 19 has affected every aspect of our lives. We are currently living in a world that has changed in so many ways. What we took for granted now becomes a challenge. It has forced everyone to RETHINK most of our actions and activities. I have observed so many different reactions. Where it has been horrible for some it has been an opportunity for others.

The basis of the LIMITLESSLIFESTYLE is to examine what is happening in your life and determine YOUR COURSE OF ACTION. Even when you believe you have no control, you may be able to take actions to improve a situation.

It is certain that the sickness and death caused by COVID is horrible. There has been so much sadness associated with the number of people affected. The number of businesses that have crumbled and the people that depended on income during this time have suffered so much. Yet though it all, we have seen BEAMS OF LIGHT AND HOPE.

I am so proud of how the Canadian and USA medical community has done so much to help people. These individuals have dedicated their time to help others. They have gone without sleep and contact with their families so they can do their part to try and improve the situation. I also find that the police, military and fire departments have stepped up to help people in need. While we don’t always agree with the actions taken by some of the police and military, I saw examples where they put their lives at risk by helping others. None of these people have an easy job.

One of the most outstanding things I observed were individuals creating something good during this challenging time. This ranged from the people who made us laugh on You Tube or thought personal emails sent to friends and family, to those who educated themselves or other family members, or created some type of invention. These individuals showed us how they made this time matter.

COVID quarantine’s created a rare opportunity for the “family unit” to connect. We have been forced to stay within immediate family or friends. Being limitless is about making the most of a good or bad situation. Anyone who has become closer to their family, learned a new skill or helped others, should be very proud. All these restrictions don’t mean that you cannot still develop or work toward your goals. We just have to be creative.

Remember – The steps of the LIMITLESS LIFESTYLE program and additional information can be found on Amazon, Kindle E-books under Limitlesslifesyle.

MENTORS - TO BE OR NOT TO BE;

I have discovered that men and women over 50 have notions about people between the ages of 20 and 30. I
have heard, comments such as what do they know, they have no experience, why should I listen to them, they
don't know anything, their life is so easy, they don't have problems.

Now having said that, some people between 20 - 30 want nothing to do with people over 50. They tell me that they act old, they have too many opinions and don't listen to anything they don't want to hear.

There are far too many people who are discriminating against people they THINK are too old or too young. Anyone who thinks this way is missing great opportunities to enjoy activities, conversation and friendships/relationships with someone who is in a different age group.

I am writing this to recommend that readers stop the preconceived notions. You do not know what any person
can offer unless you take the time to get to know them. I have found that regardless of age, so many people have great ideas and want to share all kinds of activities and experiences.

The other important fact that many young adults are looking for is a MENTOR. I was surprised to find out how many younger adults feel that they have nobody in their corner. Many of them are looking for someone to believe in them.
WHO HAVE YOU MENTORED?

LIMITLESS LIFESTYE - FOOD FOR THOUGHT. The Ten Axioms of Choice Theory

Everyone has a set of core beliefs or values that define you as a human being. Whether these are from your background, family, heritage, nationality or experience, they represent the key aspects of your personality.

At an early age parents communicate beliefs or values to their children. It is a parent’s job to teach their children about society and life in general. Society also defines and communicates some basic values that have been accepted by the majority of people. Whether right or wrong for you as an individual, these become part of your personality. They are reflected in the activities and actions of your day to day life. Core beliefs and values determine who you are and what you represent. As stated, it is communicated by the choices you make in dealing with others. The point to consider is, do we make choices based on automatic responses or careful thought. Some core values are so embedded in our personality that they become automatic. We no longer think things through. Instead, we just react to a situation or individual.

There is a philosophy that life is a series of choices that determine your future. Every time you make a decision, it is based on making a choice between at least two alternatives. Even the choice to do nothing has an effect on the direction of your life.

This is an explanation of human behavior developed by Dr. William Glasser, M.D.
