But the Autism and neurodiverse world is changing, and we must be flexible to move al...

"The human spirit is one of ability, perseverance, and courage that no disability can steal. Abled does not mean enabled. Disabled does not mean less abled. I may be different as a Neurodivergent person, but not less as a human being. Keep calm and let the Neurodivergent soul do its thing." Cole Lawrence

I'm looking at you ABAers.

Thank you Beth Tyson Trauma Consulting for this message.

From the OP: "Ignoring creates a conditional relationship based on a child’s behavior. Ignoring a child’s behavior teaches them that they are only accepted by their caregivers when they behave a certain way. "

This is important for parents and behavior analysts/technicians to understand...and to stop doing.

THE RIGHT TO READ was published by the Ontario Human Rights Commission this week - a report of the public inquiry into reading outcomes for students in our province.

We are failing many of our students with current reading assessment and teaching practices. We are failing many of our teachers by not equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools.

Receiving evidence-based literacy instruction is finally being recognized as a human right. Change is coming 👏🏼https://www3.ohrc.on.ca/sites/default/files/Right%20to%20Read%20Executive%20Summary_OHRC%20English_0.pdf

On Chapter Chat last Monday with Cari Ebert Seminars and GrowNOW - SLP & ADHD , we discussed the important topic of progress (Ch. 13). Here is one possible path you might see, as you get comfortable with DL!

And remember, it starts with YOU, and changes then transfer to your child, no matter their age. When you begin by changing the communicative landscape from negative (demanding) to positive (inviting), amazing moments unfold!

Have a great week!

...And not by using a desired item or activity to get the child to do what we want. We can help to create moments of authentic, just-being-together, emotion sharing with our kids. No agenda. This is not just important for wellbeing, growth and development, it's essential

"Joy is a powerful tool for solving childhood challenges and promoting brain health. Yet in our culture of doing, teaching, treating and pathologizing, too often we forget that when a child needs help, the first thing we should increase is joy."

Elizabeth Neish, Administrative Assistant

Behind every smoothly-run organization is an amazing Admin Assistant. We were very excited to have Elizabeth join the team in June, and now we don’t know what we would do without her! Elizabeth tackles anything and everything needed to support our day to day administrative processes and clinical work, and she helps to create a welcoming experience for each family we serve. Positivity, creativity, innovation, and impeccable organizational skills are just a few of her super powers. How lucky are we? Elizabeth Neish

This quote came from an experience where I was talking about therapy with kids- but I want all humans who work with me to feel this way.

Kids. Adults.

This is what I hope the professionals in Being With will cultivate. To Be With all parts of the clients- kids and adults- as well as themselves.
