Do You Always Cross Your Legs? Your Core Might Be Trying to Tell You Something
Have you ever noticed that crossing your legs feels more natural than sitting evenly on both feet? You’re not alone, but your body might be compensating for something.
When we habitually cross our legs, especially to one side, it often signals imbalances in core strength and stability. A strong core (more than just abs!) includes the deep muscles that stabilize your pelvis and spine. When these muscles aren’t firing properly, your body subtly shifts to a more “comfortable” position that offloads the work… like crossing your legs that stabilizes the pelvis to compensate for a weak core.
Over time, this habit can contribute to:
- Pelvic misalignment
- Lower back tension/pain/disc issues
- Uneven hips
- Reduced mobility and postural control
As a massage therapist, I often see the effects of these small patterns in clients with chronic discomfort. The good news? Small changes like core activation exercises, mindful posture, and regular bodywork can make a big impact.
Try switching up your sitting position throughout the day and notice how it feels. If sitting with both feet flat feels challenging, your core might need some love.
