These handcrafted lampwork hand-blown glass beads become energized under a light source and emit a phosphorent Aurora glow (aka Northern Lights) in the dark.

And the lava stones are the ‘secret’ to your wellness bracelet as they will ‘hold’ your aromatherapy and help you feel amazing throughout your day.

It’s been 35 years.
For nearly 20 minutes, 25-year-old Marc Lépine stalked the hallways and classrooms of École Polytechnique de Montréal, armed with a semi-automatic rifle and a hunting knife. He murdered 14 women and injured another 13 people before killing himself. He claimed to be fighting feminism.

Gender-based violence affects everyone - it’s not just a “women’s issue”; we all have a role to play in preventing it.

Research shows that when men and boys actively participate in addressing GBV, real progress happens.

Here’s how we can make a difference together:

✅ Educate and Raise Awareness: Organizations like White Ribbon (tag) provide resources to challenge harmful stereotypes and promote respect.

✅ Model Respect and Allyship: Men can take the lead by fostering respectful relationships and starting conversations about GBV in their families, workplaces, and communities.

✅ Support Leadership Programs: Initiatives like Next Gen Men (tag) engage young men in pro-feminist dialogue and equip them to be positive role models.

It’s also important to remember that men experience GBV too. In 2019, men accounted for 20% of intimate partner violence cases reported to police in Canada.

Together, we can create a future where everyone feels safe. Let’s start the conversation today.

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2024

November 25 - December 10

As we mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we reflect on GBV in engineering, Engineers Canada’s work to advance gender equity in the profession, and offer resources that can guide engineers in fulfilling their ethical responsibilities to the public in playing a role to prevent gender-based violence.

GBV in engineering

The roots of GBV can be seen everywhere, from inappropriate jokes and name-calling to discriminatory behaviour, uninvited physical contact and gestures, harassment, and assault. And GBV occurs everywhere; in the workplace, in homes, and in schools.
