A MARRIAGE COMA...

Do you feel like your marriage is in a place where you have tried everything to make it work, AND nothing seems to be helping?
Maybe something you haven't considered is a controlled separation or as Carolyn puts it in the linked blog post below, a marriage coma.
As a medical coma is used in a desperate attempt to save a severely injured patient - when all else has failed; a controlled separation can be that for a marriage that needs the last ditch effort to save it.

"I love seeing people heal from trauma. Whether the trauma is from a single catastrophic event or a series of traumatic events or interactions, trauma often changes how we look at ourselves and the people around us. Trauma can present itself in a multitude of ways including how we think. This can result in the development of negative beliefs about ourselves. Negative beliefs are that nagging voice in your head that tells you all sorts of terrible things about yourself that while your head may logically know are lies, your heart believes are true and you live as if they are true.

Eye-movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a phenomenal way to work through trauma and get rid of those negative beliefs, releasing us from the emotional weight of the things that have happened to us. If this resonates with you, let us know and we’d love to walk with you in your journey of healing."

SAD

Have you noticed yourself experiencing any of these things lately?
If so it could mean that you are experiencing something experts call SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

This often surfaces for people who live in areas where they are exposed to shorter winter days - meaning less exposure to sunshine. It's believed that sunshine can help increase the release of serotonin in your body. Which is a hormone that helps boost a person's mood and regulate many of the body's natural functions.

Know that if you're experiencing any of these things, you're not alone, many people during this time of year find themselves struggling. If you are in need of some extra support, it's okay! Feel free to contact the office and book a session with one of our therapists.

CHRISTMAS BOUNDARIES

Often, this time of year can become quite stressful with lots buzzing around in our heads: the endless to-do lists, the financial pressures, staying on top of all the events going on, the many expectations of others, etc.

It can all become very overwhelming - pushing what might be our regular limits to the edge. But let us not forget that we can help maintain our well-being during the holiday season by setting boundaries. Setting boundaries can be a great way to communicate with others where our limits are. This can help decrease some of those overwhelming and stressful feelings that arise during December. Hopefully allowing you to experience some of the peace the season truly brings.

FILLING YOUR CUP

"Filling your cup" has become this sort of art. An art of balance ... the balance of pouring out and being filled up.

If you've ever felt the pull to go from one finished (or maybe even unfinished) task to another on repeat. Or feeling overwhelmed by your “plate," you're not the only one.

Nowadays, our minds are constantly being bombarded with the next thing and the thing after that. Leaving very little space to refuel ourselves

When was the last time you made sure your cup was full or ensured you weren't running on empty? It may be easy after a long day of running around to check out, scroll our phones, or engage in mindless tasks. What if, instead, we took a moment out of our days to engage in something that fills our cups? Something that betters us gives us more energy and puts a pep in our step.

Studies show that taking the time for self-care can actually improve your productivity and give you more energy. Why not give it a try - rather than running ourselves into the ground and feeling burnout, let's help ourselves out!

Here at Conexus, we offer a 4 hour anger management course called TDC. Which stands for Transforming Destructive into Constructive.

This course is facilitated by two of our therapists, Dielle and Maryann. Included in this course is a manual, a certificate of completion, and a copy of the course objectives.

If our course is not quite what you are looking for, you are also welcome to book a regular session where you can meet with one of our therapists to discuss this topic as it is relevant to you.
