Invented by University Health Network’s Drs. Shaf Keshavjee & Marcelo Cypel, and fully funded by donors, the Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion System (EVLP) is transforming transplants worldwide – reaching its 1,000th milestone!

Dr. Keshavjee and Dr. Cypel’s development poses a monumental change for patients waiting for an organ transplant and has more than doubled the number of clinically acceptable lung donations at UHN. Without the support of philanthropy, EVLP wouldn’t exist today, and it is writing the future of transplantation - whether it’s the kidney, pancreas, lungs or the heart.

No one ever changed the world on their own but when the bright minds at UHN work together with our donors, we can redefine the world of health care together.
