July is sarcoma awareness month.

Each year in Canada, 1,700 Canadians are diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma, and 285 with bone cancer – rare cancers that can affect people of all ages.

Mount Sinai Hospital is proud to be a Canadian leader in sarcoma care. Our internationally recognized sarcoma program offers specialized care for patients with typical, rare and complex bone and soft tissue sarcomas, benign bone and soft tissue tumours.

As the largest multi-disciplinary sarcoma program in Canada, and one of the top research centres globally, we’re dedicated to learning more about sarcoma and discovering and developing new and improved treatments for patients with soft tissue sarcomas and bone cancers.

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Paula Rochon as the inaugural Director of Research for the Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health! Her leadership is a key step in advancing care and research for older women.

Sinai Health is thrilled to welcome Dr. Paula Rochon as the inaugural Director of Research for the Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health. 🎉

Dr. Rochon is a celebrated health services researcher and geriatrician who has spent her career championing mature women’s health needs. Her research has led to critical insights into prescribing practices and the under-representation of older women in clinical trials. She’s also advanced our understanding of how policy can reflect the realities of aging — especially for those living with multiple conditions, including dementia.

Her appointment reflects Sinai Health’s continued commitment to addressing gaps that exist in care and research related to women’s health. It is also a significant milestone in our efforts to establish the Centre as a world leader in research, education and care.

Congratulations to Dr. James Khan on his appointment as the inaugural holder of the Anesthesia and Pain Management Professorship in Perioperative Sciences at Sinai Health – a well-deserved recognition of his impact in pain care! 👏

As Director of the Persistent Breast Cancer Pain Clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. Khan is driving innovative research — including the use of lidocaine infusions during surgery and high-dose vitamin C in joint replacements — aimed at preventing chronic pain before it begins.

With collaborators at Research at UHN & U of T Medicine, his work is shaping the future of surgical recovery and pain management.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Samuel Law, Associate Head of the Community Psychiatry Program at Mount Sinai Hospital, on receiving the Breakout Community Psychiatry Advocacy Award from the Ontario Psychiatry Association (OPA )! 👏

This honour recognizes Dr. Law’s grassroots advocacy efforts and his ongoing commitment to improving access to care for individuals living with serious mental illness.

Dr. Law co-leads Sinai Health’s enthocultural Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team alongside psychiatrist Dr. Lisa Andermann. Together, they help deliver gold-standard mental health care to diverse communities across Toronto.
