Such a wonderful few days at the Convention in Orlando.

I had a wonderful time speaking on the topic of Cognitive Resilience, on behalf of and being on the most amazing panel some amazing colleagues and new friends including , and Dr. Michelle Jourdan.

Also got to meet and share my book and work with the always amazing .

Lastly I was lucky to run into some wonderful friends including and .

I just ended a nearly 3-day fast, and I do this once every single month.

Fasting is a powerful accelerator of metabolic activity, mitochondrial efficiency, autophagy, digestive rest, parasympathetic Vagus Nerve activation and healing...

Not to mention the amazing cognitive benefits, and feelings of accomplishment and personal capability.

I drink black coffee and water with electrolytes throughout so this is not a dry fast.

72 hours is an advanced fast but shorter, simpler options are also quite beneficial.

What is your favorite way to start the day?

Do you make sure to get out into the morning sunlight for 5-15 minutes daily?

Do you start your day with exercise, breathing or meditation practices?

Do you practice any specific Vagus nerve activation exercises to prime your day for success?

How do you begin your day to ensure that you are capable, resilient and strong?

My favorite way is to get out for a morning Sunrise Bike Ride along Lake Ontario. The best bonus is I get to take photos like this one!

Nervous system regulation is truly the key to balance and Wellness.

The Vagus Nerve is most active during the hours you are ASLEEP.

If you are not getting great sleep, you’re not giving your Vagus nerve the opportunity to do its job.

The Vagus Nerve turns on the REST-DIGEST-RECOVER functions through the Parasympathetic Nervous System.

Great sleep is the key to optimal recovery.

Researchers have shown through ENG testing of the Vagus Nerve that its electrical signals:

- Increase immediately upon falling asleep
- Rise through the night
- Drop down immediately upon waking up

This shows that Vagus nerve interacts with Melatonin to regulate Circadian Rhythm and enable us to HEAL!

Had such a great time presenting today at the CDID conference in Savannah Georgia.

This presentation was entitled "The Role of the Vagus Nerve in Circadian Biology" and included a lot of new info that I shared with this wonderful group of Chiropractic Internists.

Here are some take home points:
- Light turns on the Sympathetic nervous system
- Darkness activates the Parasympathetics + Vagus
- Melatonin has a Sympatholytic effect, meaning it limits Sympathetic activation, allowing Vagus to do its job uninhibited
- Light (particularly OLED lighting) exposure at night increases heart rate and lowers HRV
- First morning sunlight is incredibly beneficial in regulating circadian biology
- Vagus nerve stimulation with is great to support your sleep

The autonomic nervous system and immune system are inextricably linked.

The sympathetic fight-flight state upregulates inflammatory activity in immune cells.

The parasympathetic rest-digest-recover state downregulates inflammatory activity in immune cells.

Both Sympathetic and Parasympathetic states are necessary, but balance is key.

The ideal ratio is 80% inParasympathetic, 20% in Sympathetic.
