Breastfeeders need not be worried about donating their milk during this crisis. The milk banks can use your milk. After pasteurizing, it is safe for those in need.

Background: Provision of pasteurized donor human milk, as a bridge to mother’s own milk, is the standard of care for very low-birth-weight infants in hospital. The aim of this research was to confirm that Holder pasteurization (62.5°C for 30 min) would be sufficient to inactivate severe acute res...

About the MAMA Lab
The Milk and Micronutrient Assessment Lab (MAMA Lab) is run by Dr. Kyly Whitfield and her team in the Department of Applied Human Nutrition at Mount Saint Vincent University.

Dr. Whitfield is passionate about nutrition in the first 1,000 days, from conception to two years, and her research program aims to explore both the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of feeding during this time.

A major focus of the MAMA Lab is to study infant feeding behaviours, and the potential long-term effects of early feeding on eating patterns and disease risk. They also try to understand what the general public knows about infant feeding to better understand breastfeeding culture and feeding norms.

"Placentophagy"- eating your own placenta. Other mammals do it. Do you suppose it is something we used to do as early humans but no longer have to? Perhaps it stems from the idea that the mother had to hide all evidence that a birth took place to protect the tiny vulnerable offspring from predators.

The study is the largest so far to look at the effects of eating one's placenta.

Research shows that most women want to breastfeed and they make that decision even before they get pregnant. We are failing women by not getting the right information to them at the right time. Having infant feeding information in the school curriculum at various stages and ages for both sexes can help normalize breastfeeding and help to change the stigma culture that still exists. It's a fact that breastfeeding families generally eat more healthily. By including timely messages during pregnancy, about the importance of skin to skin, hand-expression, baby-led nursing, supports in your community all have proven to help families embrace the importance of breastfeeding which lasts a lifetime.

Canadian women who worry about making ends meet are less likely to continue to breastfeed their baby compared with other women, say researchers who are calling for more supports for vulnerable families.

Not by a little, by 50%. These results are from 30 years of research. We know breastfeeding has benefits, but this is awesome news for the health of mothers.

Over the past few decades a multitude of research has illustrated the benefits of breastfeeding for both the baby and the mother. Babies who are breastfed tend to have stronger immune systems, get less infections and have less problems later in life including childhood cancers, cavities, Type 1 and....
