Keep your little ones safe this Halloween – and have fun on the spookiest night of the year by planning ahead and following a few golden rules:
• Give each child a flashlight to carry to make them more visible to cars and other pedestrians and encourage them to always cross at the corner.
• Let kids draw or design the jack-o-lantern, then have an adult carve it.
• Choose costumes that are fitted (which don’t pose a tripping hazard) and use makeup instead of masks, so they don’t interfere with your child’s vision or breathing.

If you’ve ever had a stiff neck or aching lower back following an afternoon of working outside, you’re not alone. Raking leaves requires twisting, reaching, pulling, bending, and lifting – which can contribute to low back pain and neck injuries.

Follow these four rules for ouch-free raking this fall:
1/ Use your legs to lift heavy piles of leaves, and turn your whole body when you toss, to avoid twisting your back.
2/ Use a lightweight plastic leaf rake, not a heavy garden rake.
3/ Take 10 minutes to gently warm up by stretching your neck, shoulders, and torso before you start.
4/ Pace yourself - rake in small even strokes and lift small bunches of leaves.
