The SOGC’s recent position statement reaffirming the safety of acetaminophen use during pregnancy was featured in a CBC News article covering new U.S. government moves to add warnings linking Tylenol to autism.

The SOGC notes that acetaminophen remains a safe and appropriate option for managing fever and pain in pregnancy when used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary time. It also stresses that untreated fever poses its own risks and that the current evidence does not support a causal link between acetaminophen and autism.

With measles cases popping up in Hamilton, consider updating your vaccine!

Today marks the start of National Immunization Week in Canada – a time which highlights and recognizes the importance of immunization.

Given the current measles outbreak, the SOGC would like to take this opportunity to advise everyone, especially pregnant individuals, about the significant risks associated with the virus. The measles vaccine is not recommended during pregnancy which is why it is important to get vaccinated before conceiving or during the postpartum period.

If you are pregnant, unvaccinated and exposed to measles contact your health care provider as soon as possible.

Want to stay calm in labour? Try this one simple trick:
Don’t tell anyone you’re in labour.
Not your mom. Not your group chat. Not even your nosy neighbour. 🤫

After attending hundreds of births, I can confidently say: updating friends and family while you're labouring is deeply distracting.

Here’s what happens:
You get a few cramps, feel hopeful, and fire off a “today’s the day!” text...
A few hours later, everything fizzles out.
Cue the awkward “false alarm” messages.

Or maybe it’s the real deal and you’re on your way to the hospital. Now your partner’s phone is blowing up with “Any news??” texts and he’s playing social secretary instead of supporting you.

Even with an epidural, replying to a million check-ins gets old.
It adds stress, pulls you out of your zone, and messes with your vibe.

So here’s the move:
Protect your peace. Stay quiet. Soak in the moment.
When baby arrives and you’ve had your first cuddles, then you make the big announcement. 🎉

Trust me: it’s worth the wait.

Already had a baby? Did you tell people when labour started, or keep it low-key?

This is why we're passionate about tongue ties, body tension and reflux: the body is amazingly interconnected and sometimes the symptoms you observe are related to areas of the body you wouldn't expect.

This is interesting.. 🤔

From birth, your tongue is actually connected to your toes through an intricate network of connective tissue known as fascia.

If your tongue is not resting correctly in your mouth due to mouth breathing, things can get out of alignment in your mouth and the rest of your body.
Tongue posture can lead to a foot imbalance and vice versa because the tongue guides all myofascial continuity structures that run from the inner arch of the foot up through the middle of the body to the tongue and jaw muscles.

When the tongue sits on top of the palate, it seals the oral cavity and holds the throat open like a tent. These muscles support the neck, keep your posture straight, help you breathe, and maintain your posture upright.
Your tongue also acts as a rudder and support system through a fascial line, and when the tongue is down, we breathe through our mouth, and the head falls forward due to lack of support, which leads to poor posture and increased energy expenditure.

🤯 Let's get real: your friends and family and coworkers and doulas aren't birthing your baby, so their opinions on how you should birth can take a hike!

You might get some great advice, especially from your doulas, but opinions on your choices?! Pfft!

Like, as long as you don't want to yank baby out through your nose, you're golden!

Get an epidural if you're struggling!

Leave the know-it-all voices behind because you birthed your baby! You grew a whole human inside you and then you pushed that baby out, or had someone lift your baby, like a precious artifact, from your body, and you're already falling in love with them!

The baby, that is. We don't recommend falling in love with your OB. It'll make the follow-up visit awkward.

You're doing it! Your succeeding! We knew you could. 🥰Love, your doulas
