Chronic Pain Diagnosis and Management for Healthcare Providers
February 23-24, 2019, Toronto, ON
Costs: before Feb 1 $500 plus HST, after Feb $600.00
Student rate $300 plus HST
Presented by: Dr Demetry Assimakopoulos
Approximately 20% of the Canadian population suffers from chronic pain. Unfortunately, chronic pain is a significant healthcare burden, utilizing billions of healthcare dollars yearly. Above all, it is intuitively known that managing chronic pain in clinical practice is draining on any practitioner. Various stakeholders are calling this scenario a “healthcare crisis.” Now, allied healthcare professionals are being called upon to help manage chronic pain differently, in an effort to ease the burden on both the healthcare system, practitioners, and patients themselves. Chronic Pain Management is a two-day seminar, which aims to improve clinicians’ clinical skills in the diagnosis and long-term management of chronic pain. Clinicians will be empowered with necessary tools to adequately assess and develop treatment plans for chronic pain patients, that can be immediately be applied in clinical practice.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Use standard pain assessments in relation to clinical case studies
• Perform a thorough biopsychosocial chronic pain history, which includes, but is not limited to:
• Chronology and temporal change of pain
• Pain ratings and quality
• Psychosocial history, and how its impact on prognosis
• Adequately perform a physical examination on a chronic pain patient that enables diagnosis of a chronic pain condition
• Demonstrate, execute and understand the importance of a comprehensive sensory examination on a chronic pain patient
• Recall, understand, and distinguish between various common chronic pain conditions, based on the history and physical examination (case based)
• Describe, illustrate, execute and compose a chronic pain management biopsychosocial treatment plan, based on individual patient needs

DERMAL TRACTION METHOD CO-INVENTED BY DR. DEAN – Saturday, October 26
When people think of pinches nerves the first things that come to mind are sciatica, carpal tunnel and radicular pain syndromes that occur from a herniated disc. This occurs when these large (Macro) nerves become compressed generally by either a bulged disc or what commonly known as a tunnel syndrome. When mobility of these large nerves become restricted either by mechanical or physiological means a clinical scenario arises

WHAT ABOUT THE SMALL NERVES?
Dermal Traction Method (formally known as YAP) is manual therapy technique that targets the small nerves that reside in the skin.
Key Learning Objectives:
Anatomy and physiology of the superficial fascia including it’s variability in different body regions.
How Dermal Traction Method should be the preferred choice to increase mobility of the skin as well as address “unhappy” superficial nerves. aka pinches nerves.
Learn which cutaneous nerves create pain that’s often misdiagnosed. Examples include Plantar Fasciitis, Patella Femoral Syndrome, Headaches, Neck pain, Upper back, and Groin pain.
When a superficial nerve is the pain generating tissue, learn how this relates to movement. Design your rehabilitation exercises with nerve biomechanics in mind to avoid further provocation with sports injuries.
Learn where almost all superficial nerves are located in the body!
