❄️ Ice Storm Prep – A Few More Reminders ❄️

With freezing rain expected this afternoon, it’s a good idea to be prepared for a potential extended power outage.

• Make sure you have salt or sand for driveways and walkways
• If you’re on a well, set aside a few buckets of water for washing and flushing toilets
• If you have a generator, ensure you have fuel on hand and keep it well away from your home to avoid carbon monoxide exposure
• Check your carbon monoxide detector – make sure it’s working and has fresh batteries
• Download a favourite TV series, movies, or music so you can stay entertained while staying safe indoors if the power goes out

🚜 Roads Update
Our roads team is monitoring conditions closely.
• A grader is out ice-blading dirt roads to rough up the surface
• Crews will be out on plow routes around 11 a.m. to sand and salt
• Freezing rain is expected around 1 p.m.

With storms like this, everything can hinge on the exact freezing point as the precipitation falls. Please take it slow, plan ahead, and stay safe.

Tonight, Uxbridge came far too close to a tragedy.

While responding to a collision at Wagg Road near Highway 47, three of our firefighters were struck by an SUV. They are awake and alert, but their injuries are serious, and all three have been rushed to a Toronto trauma centre. A driver from the original collision has also been transported to hospital in stable condition.

I am so extremely grateful that we are not adding any new names to our firefighter memorial tonight.

Thank you to the DRPS, our Uxbridge Fire team, Ornge, Durham EMS, and every responder working in these extremely hazardous conditions.

Regional and Uxbridge snow removal crews are out on the roads and are doing their best to have our roads ready for the morning commute. The weather is expected to get worse before it gets better, and road conditions remain extremely dangerous.

Please avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Stay safe, Uxbridge.
