If a camera crew followed you around for a week, would it tell the story of someone who loves and respects themselves?

How are you showing up for you?

If you’re serious about getting the most of yourself and your time on this planet, then I highly recommend leaning into this episode and listening to this man’s story.

From pro athlete to coach… to now being a leader helping shape young minds.

Here’s a little more about Scott:

AFL career with stops at West Coast during the 90’s powerhouse era.

Sydney and Fremantle, receiving runner up in the best and fairest and vice-captain in his return to the west.

Senior AFL assistance and senior coach before moving into the world of creating impact on the lives of many in a different way.

Remarkable human.

Humble man.

Being a dad for the second time has been awesome in so many ways.

It certainly helps of course to have an amazing partner in life. I love you

What has really stood out though is how our growth as humans has translated to our growth as parents.

It starts with wanting to be awesome parents and choosing to behave and show up as such everyday. Belief is not a small part of this equation.

My self talk game used to be awful and it showed in my results. I used to say things like I’m not fit to be a parent and I’ll never know what it’s like to experience financial independence. The results spoke for themselves.

We still have a lot of room to grow as parents, just like I will always have more room to improve as an investor and manager of money.

I swore to myself when I knew I was going to be a dad that I would prioritize this job above all others and I have committed to that growth everyday.

In a similar way I told myself at the back end of the 2008 financial crisis that I would never again miss an opportunity to amass wealth like had just occurred when the economy recovered.

I believed in both of these outcomes and practiced at getting better at them everyday.

I’m not saying being a dad or being an investor are easy endeavors. I’m just saying that with practice, everything gets a little easier over time.

Do you know why you are doing what you do day in and day out?

I mean, do you really truly know? Have you asked yourself what experiences you want your life to be filled with?

“Know Thyself” was the first of 3 Delphic Maxims that was transcribed into the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. It was important then, it may be even more important now.

I was talking to a friend of mine recently who is a realtor and he told me about how they went around the office asking what everyone’s “WHY” was. Barely anyone could answer. Everyone seemed kinda lost and a little shocked.

So I have to ask, are you a serial dabbler jumping from trend to trend, or do you truly know who you are and what you're working towards?

One day you will look back and ask yourself questions to determine if you’re happy with the life you’ve lived.

So, before you follow the next get rich quick scheme, figure out what you want your life to be about and who you want to share it with.

Invest in yourself fully so you can truly enjoy what you accomplish with the people who mean the most to you!

If you know you’re why, I’d love to hear it in the comments below 👇🏼

Money is a fascinating subject!

One that doesn’t get talked about in enough homes growing up and one that is also something that will be a part of our entire lives, good or bad.

For me it isn’t about a love of money, it's about helping people not make the mistakes I did in my younger years and getting the start that has them get to financial freedom SO MUCH FASTER than it took me.

These books are not investment strategy books or intro to investing by any means, but they all attack the subject of money mindset and money systems in a different way.

If you are looking to better understand this energy source called money, these books will not do you wrong!

I also found it interesting that only one of these books was published in the 2000’s. I've read many modern books on the subject, but these books are still on top 10 lists for a reason!

Enjoy.

Do you believe your personal finances are a workable skillset?

Why shouldn’t they be? This modern world of finances is brand new for how long us humans have been around and it’s constantly changing.

200,000 years of evolution and the concept of retirement was only introduced by German Chancellor Otto Von Bismark in 1889. This was in large part because life expectancy had jumped up to about 45-50 years of age.

Flash forward not even 150 years and the world of finance is still in constant change. Not to mention life expectancy is around 80.

If you’re born in the US, the Roth IRA was only created in 1998. If you’re up here in Canada, our version of the IRA, the TFSA, was only created in 2009.

Like all games, the best players are always looking for ways to evolve and improve.

If you don’t have a tax free account accumulating interest, that should be one of your first steps.

What books could you read or podcasts could you listen to that would improve your skills and understanding immediately?

The resources are abundant, but you have to commit to rounding out that skillset.

Today was a good day. Thank you for all of the love we’ve already received.

Very few moments focus you to the level that seeing your child enter the world can.

All I want to do now is make my girls proud. That includes you 😉

Here’s to loving the journey. Here’s to family 🥂.

We all get old in life. That is a guarantee. How we get old is up to each and every one of us.

Life is getting more expensive. Especially if you’re having kids. I wasted my 20’s in an alcoholic slumber.

I had to get laser focused in my 30’s to turn the ship around. I will never take my foot off the gas because I know how I want to live and the impact I want to have.

Don’t just invest in your wealth, invest in your health as well. Make it a 360 approach.

When you do reach that finish line, what do you want to look back and say?

Does the amount of options and information about investing make you want to not even bother?

There’s a name for this and it’s called “information blindness”.

A 2004 study done by researchers at Columbia University set out to understand why many people chose not to partake in 401k matching programs at large companies.

They surveyed over 800,000 participants over the length of the study.

What they found was that the less options employees had, the more likely they were to participate.

The more options, usually around 30+, led to information blindness. Rates of sign up dropped significantly the more the options became abundant.

The answer was to start asking better questions to create better filters to sort through the all of options.

This is why you need to ask yourself some better questions to start seeing through all the noise.

Once you have a base level understanding, finding a low risk strategy that you can follow for the long term is not so difficult.

The amount of news and noise is not going away.

Start by finding the answers to these questions and then decide if you want to go further.

If you want to discuss long term strategy, book a discovery call and let’s get after it. Link in bio.

Does investing in the stock market scare you?

I would understand if it did. I was too scared to learn for a long time and felt stupid even asking questions on where to start.

That was about 7 years ago. Last year ended up being by far my best year financially without having a job for most of it. Only because I got past the fear and spent years studying market history and learning from experts with a PROVEN track record.

Charlie mentioned above absolutely meets the requirements of a proven expert.

Why then do most investors not follow the value method or at least the index investing method?

Because long-term investing isn’t sexy. Trading meme stocks and praying for the quick hit is way more appealing to our nature.

This is why many of the world's greatest investors are meditators. Many also spend hours a day reading hundreds of pages. Always quieting the mind and learning.

If you do your research you will see that most traders, or large funds for that matter don’t actually beat the market. Too much money is lost in transaction costs and paying capital gains tax from the constant buying and selling.

So my friends, may you hold long and prosper!

Happy Friday ✌🏼

Are you scrambling week-to-week looking for that next trend or get rich quick scheme?

Are you giving yourself enough time at anything to really see growth in that area of your life?

I ask these questions because we live in a ridiculously high paced world now where our natural tendency for comparison and envy is on steroids.

There is a lot of behaviour rooted in what is being hyped on social platforms, and that behaviour is being mimicked for the hope of rapid exposure or financial gains.

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with the desire to grow and earn more. I would say never lose that desire!

I have spent the last 8 years studying the habits of the successful and prosperous to the tune of around 400 books. I have also spent the last 3 years studying long term value investing from the experts. I’m actually currently a student with

Where the short term trend hopping focus can get you into trouble is it can make you a serial dabbler. Always doing many things, but mastering none.

When you look at the track record of most people dominating their field, the story is most often the same. Years of consistent effort and sacrifice.

This is why vision and being clear on what you want to experience in life is so crucial.

The habit of clarity is something most high performers share. They are crystal clear on what they want in their lives and they are always working on the mission.

Get clear on where you are going and why it matters to you and start building out shorter term plans that are in line with that vision.

If you want help with getting there, fire me a DM and let's get started.
