Rest is often associated with sleep and inactivity, but it doesn’t always restore what’s needed. There are times when the body feels tired, yet something else remains unsettled: mental, emotional, or sensory.

This framework, shared by Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith, offers a way of understanding different types of rest, and how to respond to what your system is asking for. Understanding the different types can help us tune in and give ourselves what we actually need. It’s about creating space to heal, grow, and show up more fully...

Rest is part of the practice. Making space for yourself is the process.

I took a step back over the past several months. From social media, from the noise, from trying to keep up. Putting my energy into different types of rest, recalibrating, and my creative work.

Sometimes stepping away is how you show up for yourself.

This kind of space carries into everything. Into how we move, how we care for our mental health, and how we move through life.

Take the space you need✨

On October 10th, the World Health Organization (WHO) marked World Mental Health Day focusing on Mental Health in Humanitarian Emergencies. It’s a global reminder that there is no health without mental health, and that care must remain within reach even in times of crisis.

Mental health care is survival, not a privilege. This belief sits at the heart of what we do. It means that care should belong to everyone, not just those who can afford it, have access, or live outside of crisis. Everyone deserves the chance to heal, to be supported, and to feel seen in their struggle.

When we make care accessible for all, we nurture collective mental health: the wellbeing of communities that rise, rebuild, and recover together. It saves lives and helps people heal.

At MNSTR Skate, mental health awareness isn’t a once-a-year event. It’s a daily practice of access, empathy, and movement as medicine, especially when things fall apart.

Let’s keep creating spaces online and in our everyday lives where healing isn’t a privilege, but a shared responsibility.

SKATE+REFLECT ✨🛹✨ Skating keeps me here. Now. Present.

When my mind feels full, my board brings me back to here, to this. The whole act of skating asks for presence… leaving no room for spirals or overthinking.

Why presence matters for mental health:
• Calm the nervous system
• Break the cycle of overthinking
• Feel connected to our body
• Notice small moments of peace
• Responding, instead of just reacting

That’s the gift of movement. It anchors us. For me, skating is how I reconnect with my body, quiet my mind, and remember that presence can be as simple as feeling the vibrations of the board beneath me.

Sometimes mental health isn’t about fixing everything. It’s about finding one thing that grounds you in the moment

What anchors you? 💫

MNSTR Skate is evolving 🛹✨

The MNSTR Skate Initiative website is rebuilding elsewhere… in a space that aligns more deeply with MNSTR's values.

After learning about Wix’s stance during this time of global grief, we made the conscious choice to move.

The site is down for a little while, but looking forward to launching a new digital home that feels right.

In the meantime, check mnstrskate.com for a link to a playlist curated by

Thanks for skating with us through the transitions 🖤

Check-in // Hey there 👋🏼🐱 hope YOU are well ✨ Lately, I’ve been holding a lot… quietly. Emotionally, mentally, energetically.

The weight of the world has felt especially heavy, and it’s left me feeling rather raw.

Some days, I’ve needed to log off, slow down, and protect my peace.Other days, I’ve simply gone quiet just to catch my breath.

If you’ve been feeling foggy, overwhelmed, or far away from yourself… I hope you’re carving out whatever space you need.

I’ve also been working on rebuilding the MNSTR Skate website and moving it away from Wix. As I learned more about the platform’s actions + stance during this time of global grief, I realized I could no longer stay rooted in a space that felt misaligned with my values.

It’s been a slow, emotional, and deliberate process. More updates abt this soon.

How are YOU feeling today? 🖤 Feel free to check in below.

A Moment for Q***r Mental Health 🧠🏳️‍🌈✨

This post is a pause. A breath. A reminder.
For anyone carrying the weight of being q***r in a world that often misunderstands or overlooks us, this is for you.

There is no one way to be q***r. No right way to express yourself. No timeline for showing up as your full self. And no version of you that is “too much” or “not enough.”

Mental health is a critical q***r issue.
Because when you’re constantly navigating judgment, microaggressions, unsafe spaces, or even silence -  it adds up.

Whether you're out loud, out quietly, still questioning, or holding parts of yourself close for safety… you're allowed to take up space. You deserve support, softness, and spaces where you don’t have to explain yourself.

This is one of those spaces.

And if you’re not q***r but you care, that matters, too.
Allyship isn’t about perfect words.
It’s about showing up… listening, learning, and standing beside us in both quiet and bold ways.

Q***r mental health improves when we’re believed, supported, and seen… by people who hold space, advocate, and honor our right to exist fully.

With love, always.

P.S. We recognize that ‘q***r’ holds different meanings for different people… this post is offered with care, solidarity, and respect for the many ways people express who they are.

A Love Letter: For the mothers and the ones who mother 💫 It’s been an emotional day, full of reflection, joy, and grief. These words aren’t just for mother's day, but for every day that stretches and shapes you.

This is a love letter to the mothers, the nurturers, the cycle-breakers... to those reparenting themselves while raising others.

A letter for the ones mothering through war, displacement, and colonization.

For those grieving stolen time, missing arms that once held them.

For those mothering in silence, in survival, in strength.

A moment of truth, softness, and resilience for all those who mother in seen and unseen ways.

SWIPE through 🔖 SAVE this for when you need to feel seen, held, or reminded of your quiet strength.

With care,
Oli + The MNSTR Skate Initiative

💫Get out of your head, and into your body. 💫 When life throws us off balance, we often get stuck in a loop of overthinking and rumination. In that state, sometimes clarity doesn’t come from sitting with your thoughts… It comes from moving your body.

🌿 Go for a quick skate, even it’s just a cruise.
🌿 Stretch. Do what feels good for you + your body.
🌿 Drop what you’re doing and go for a walk.
🌿 Somatic movements to release tension: Shake out your arms + legs, jump up + down, body drumming,   jumping jacks, etc.

Movement creates space. When we move, we activate our senses, release built-up tension, and invite a shift in perspective.

It allows us to step out of the loop of overthinking, calm the nervous system, and process our stress in ways that thinking alone cannot achieve.

Through any act of movement, we reconnect with ourselves and create the conditions for clarity.

When it comes to our mental health matters, it’s so helpful to prepare for the moments that catch you off guard. Take a moment to jot down a list of movements that feel natural + energizing for you. Save them somewhere accessible in your phone notes or on a post-it.

So next time tension builds, the first step isn’t to think of something different. It’s to do something different.

Share and/or save this post as a gentle nudge for the next time you feel stuck. 💫

In skating and in life, the company we keep shapes our journey. Even when we’re moving at different paces, we’re all still moving forward together. Meaningful connections brings strength as we continue to work on ourselves.💫

This parallels mental health: sometimes we need to lean on others, and other times we’re the ones offering support. Whether it’s a partner, a close friend, family, or a mental health professional like a therapist... Each form of support plays a unique role.✨

Friends + loved ones can offer connection and understanding, while a mental health professional provides the tools and space to work through challenges.

We don’t have to navigate life’s tougher moments alone. Strength isn’t about doing it all by ourselves; it’s about recognizing when we need support and allowing ourselves to receive it.

Some questions to reflect on:
Who’s with you on your journey?
Are you allowing yourself to lean on others when needed?
How can you invite more support into your journey?

New Year, Same Journey 💫 Honoring Our Mental Health Journey, Wherever It May Be. The calendar may have flipped and you're still you, exactly as you should be. New year, same heart, same soul… just with a little more focus on giving yourself what you need.

Let’s ditch the pressure to transform and instead embrace the power of being present for ourselves. This year, we can honor our mental health journey with self-acceptance and gratitude: for the steps we’ve taken, the lessons we’ve learned, and the growth that continues to unfold.

By appreciating where we are and how far we’ve come, we create space to move forward with intention 🖤 Here’s to continuing the journey with care✨

Reflection: How will you honor your mental health journey this year? Share + save this post as a reminder.
