Ever wondered what actually happens during an overnight postpartum doula shift?
While parents sleep deeply upstairs, I’m caring for baby, washing bottles, folding tiny laundry, prepping snacks, and keeping the household humming. It’s quiet, sacred work that gives families the rest they need to show up refreshed the next day.
I just shared a new blog post that takes you hour by hour through a real-life overnight with a family (names and details changed for privacy). If you’ve ever thought about hiring a night nanny or postpartum doula — or you’re just curious what we do while you’re catching those zzz’s — this post is for you. 🌙

✨ October Affirmation ✨
Grief and love can exist together.
In the perinatal journey, grief often weaves itself quietly alongside love.
It may be grief from miscarriage or abortion. Grief for a loved one who has passed while you are pregnant or newly postpartum. Grief for the birth experience you hoped for but didn’t have. Grief for the end of your maiden era, or for the shifting dynamics as your family grows.
Whatever form it takes, grief deserves recognition. It does not cancel out the joy, nor does love erase the grief. Both can live in your heart at the same time.
This month, I invite you to honor the complexity of your experience. To give yourself grace and space for all emotions that arise. To know that feeling sorrow does not diminish your love — it deepens it.
🌙 You are allowed to grieve.
🌙 You are allowed to love.
🌙 You are allowed to hold both.

🌙 Why try Baby & Me Yoga? 🌙

Postpartum yoga is more than movement—it’s a practice that supports healing, bonding, and community. Here are five beautiful benefits you’ll find on the mat:

1. Gentle core + pelvic floor recovery
2. Stress + anxiety relief through breath and movement
3. Improved posture and reduced tension from feeding/carrying baby
4. Connection and bonding with your little one
5. A supportive space to meet other new parents

Join us every Thursday in October from 11:30–12:30 at Mount Pleasant Community Centre. Drop-ins are welcome, or register through the link in my bio. ✨

✨Newborn sleep isn’t about rigid schedules—it’s about creating gentle rhythms that help your baby feel safe, secure, and deeply cared for. In the early months, the focus isn’t on “sleep training,” but on building the foundations of attachment and trust. 💛

When babies know their needs will be met with warmth and consistency, they develop the confidence that allows for more independent sleep later on. Think of it as planting the seeds now for healthy sleep habits in the future. 🌱

In our latest blog post, we share simple, nurturing ways to create a calming nighttime routine—like dimming the lights, using soothing cues, and making bedtime a moment of connection. These small rituals help your baby wind down while also giving you more peace at night. 🌙

✨ 10 Fun Facts About Me (Sasha: your friendly neighborhood baby whisperer) ✨
1. Big three: Scorpio ☀️ , Cancer 🌙 , Taurus rising = deep feeler, loyal ride-or-die, and a little stubborn when it matters.
2. Citizen of the world 🌎 : I was born in Canada but my family roots are in the Philippines, Germany and Latvia. My husband is from Argentina/Uruguay and we have lived in Mexico and China.
3. Before becoming a postpartum doula, I spent 15 years as an educator with a background in early childhood education, English language learning + Montessori. Basically, I know how to keep calm in a room full of tiny humans.
2. I’ve trained and certified with DONA International and Cornerstone Birthwork
4. I am also a certified yoga teacher and used to teach standup paddleboard yoga. Now I only offer private prenatal and baby and me classes 🧘🏽‍♀️
5. I did a one-year apprenticeship with a traditional midwife/medicine woman in Mexico.
6. I’m a lifelong learner: I love workshops, online course and self-study of all kinds. I just did a sewing workshop this weekend!
7. I have an 11-year-old chihuahua named Lupita—she’s a sweet angel that we adopted in Mexico, and yes, she also loves babies. 🐕
8. 🧜🏼‍♀️ I am a mermaid: Saltwater is my happy place and just signed up for a freediving course this fall.
9. I’m a third-generation tarot reader. (Yes, I’ll totally pull cards for you if you ask nicely.)
10. My guilty pleasure is blasting reggaeton—Benito is always on repeat.

August Affirmation: I nourish in the way that’s right for us.
August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month—but real support means honouring all feeding journeys.
Whether you breastfeed, pump, formula feed, combo feed, or do any blend in between:
You are nourishing your baby.
You are making decisions from love.
You are doing enough.
There’s no “one right way”—only your right way.
Let’s release shame, comparison, and pressure.
Let’s make room for support, information, and empowerment.
Feeding is a relationship, not a performance.
You’ve got this.

**Two babies, one body, no sleep?**
Here’s what I’ve learned after supporting *so many* families with twins & multiples 💛

✨ Have safe places to put each baby *everywhere*
✨ Your baby carrier = survival gear
✨ Keep notes (because your brain will be mush)
✨ Sync their schedule ASAP
✨ Treat them as individuals, even when it’s hard not to compare
✨ Plan your *nights* before they arrive (trust me)
✨ Expect intense postpartum recovery—more hormones, higher c-section rates, more need for support
✨ Ask for help, get outside, and talk to someone
✨ Find your twin parent crew (you’re not alone!)

You don’t have to do this solo. Let us support you with overnight care and postpartum doula services designed *just* for families with multiples.

In a culture that glorifies doing, it’s revolutionary to rest—especially as a new parent.
The newborn stage is full of invisible labour: feedings, soothing, regulating your own nervous system.
You’re not “doing nothing.” You are recovering, bonding, integrating.
You don’t need permission to rest—but here it is anyway: Rest is not a luxury. It’s a necessity.
It’s also how your body repairs, how your mind settles, and how you find strength for tomorrow.
Rest is medicine.
Rest is sacred.
And you are worthy of it.

**Rest is Resistance. 🌙**

What if accepting help isn’t weakness, but *wisdom*?

In many cultures, postpartum rest is sacred. In ours, it’s often overlooked—especially for BIPOC parents who’ve carried generations of overwork and undercare.

Choosing overnight newborn care, a night nanny, or postpartum doula support is more than just getting sleep—it’s reclaiming your right to be held, nourished, and deeply restored.

Just like the earth rests in winter to bloom again in spring, your postpartum season deserves stillness, softness, and support. 💫
