My 30+ years experience as a dancer, specifically as a physics based contact dancer has informed every aspect of my life, including the way I teach yoga. Having twisted and whirled around with 1000's of bodies of different shapes and sizes all over the world, carrying men twice my weight, I've learned with every part of me, that true core power doesn't come from a muscle. It's not your abdominals. It's not your pelvic
floor. And, as fascinating and as mysterious as the Psoas is, it's not even your Psoas. If I had to say it came from one thing, I would say it's the earth. But, in truth your core is not one thing.
It's a relationship.
It's a relationship between you, your anatomy, your attention, your alignment and the natural laws of the physics, ie.gravity. And, this 'relationship' is happening
all of the time, whether you are aware of it or not. Yet, like any relationship when we neglect it, it can have painful consequences, for our bodies,
and our lives.
But there's hope!
With care and the right attitude we can light a spark in our core relationship again.
All it takes is awareness, breath, skillful alignment and a willingness to 'relate' to our core differently. Because, when we do that, we transform. Not only
do we have less pain, feel lighter and have more energy, our movements start to become more efficient, even graceful at times. And, when we're feeling better in our own skin, we naturally start to carry this 'core relationship' forward into other parts of
our lives – having more fun, feeling braver, taking on challenges – feeling more resilient and 'core connected' in
everything we do.
So... what yah say? Want to light the spark?
