We are thrilled to share that our forum, “Hereditary Cancer Prevention: Thinking Big, Thinking Differently,” held on Friday, January 17th, was a great success. This collaborative, multidisciplinary event focused on population-based genetic testing and its transformative potential for cancer prevention.

Building upon our inaugural conference in November 2021, where we began exploring population-based genetic testing as a prevention strategy, this event was designed to address key unanswered questions around adoption and implementation. We brought together national and international experts to discuss the latest developments in the field, including research on the cost-effectiveness of population-based testing within the Canadian healthcare system, as well as global perspectives on real-world implementation.

We facilitated dialogue between a diverse audience of clinicians, researchers, policymakers, patient partners, healthcare leaders, philanthropic organizations, and advocacy groups. Together, we explored innovative strategies to overcome barriers and build equitable access to population-based genetic testing model in BC, and beyond.

A special thank you to all of our speakers and panelists, [list and tag all speakers and panelists].

Thank you to our program chair, Dr. Lesa Dawson, for bringing such an engaged group of people together.

Lastly, thank you to the Manek Homi Italia Foundation through the BC Cancer Foundation for sponsoring this work.

We are excited to announce the first episode of our collaborative series with Ovarian Cancer Canada (OCC). In this series, we will have the opportunity to speak with patient partners, research scientists, and program coordinators from OCC, who will share about the research, awareness and advocacy work they are doing in OCC. As the only registered Canadian charity solely dedicated to overcoming ovarian cancer, the organization provides leadership in research, advocacy, and support, so that women live fuller, better, longer lives.

To kick off our collaborative series with OCC, we have Donna Peppin sharing her personal experience with low-grade serous ovarian cancer and her advocacy work with OCC. Donna emphasizes the significance of patient-centered research and how patient involvement has led to a greater research focus on rare subtypes of ovarian cancer. She also provides valuable information on OCC's support services and other resources available for patients. By the end of this episode, we hope that you will feel empowered and inspired, just as we did.
