Today, May 5, we mark Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two‑Spirit, Transgender, and Gender‑Diverse Peoples (MMIWG2S+).
Red dresses are hung as a powerful reminder of those whose lives have been taken or remain unaccounted for, and of the ongoing impacts of colonial violence and systemic injustice.
At macushlaw, we honour the lives and spirits of MMIWG2S+, stand in solidarity with their families and communities, and recommit to listening, learning, and taking action in support of justice, safety, and Indigenous self‑determination.
Join us in taking action on Red Dress Day:
🟥Wear red on May 5 to show solidarity.
🟥Listen to the stories of survivors and families and amplify the voices with consent.
🟥Write to elected officials demanding full implementation of the 231 Calls for Justice.
🟥Attend local vigils, walks, and events.
🟥Donate to Indigenous-led organizations and support land defenders.
🟥Educate yourself and your community about MMIWG2S+ issues.
