Four days post-surgery and this is my first full harvest since breaking my right forearm — a vibrant, healing gift from the garden. 🌱💪
On Monday, I had surgery to repair two clean breaks in my right forearm. After the accident on Saturday, I went two days without food, unintentionally fasting for nearly 48 hours until Monday night. While completely unplanned, this fast likely shifted my body into autophagy — a powerful cellular process that clears out damaged cells, reduces inflammation, and kickstarts deep healing. ✨
After the painful two-day wait for surgery, I chose my first meal with intention — organic chicken bone broth, infused with anti-inflammatory herbs from the garden: sage, oregano, thyme, basil, and dill. It was gentle on my system and rich in collagen and protein, to begin nourishing and rebuilding my body from the inside out. 🌿
Pain meds did a number on my gut (constipation is real 😅), but thank goodness it’s cherry season here in Revelstoke — and my backyard is blessed with an abundance of cherries, fennel, and raspberries that helped get things moving naturally. I’ve also been sipping soothing teas with lemon balm, mint, and fennel seeds to support digestion and calm my nervous system.
I’m sharing this story because I’m committed to doing everything I can to heal as quickly and completely as possible — and maybe even beat the average recovery timeline — using organic food, garden medicine, and everything I’ve learned about supporting the body’s healing process. This injury is intense, but so is my will to heal. 💥
Today’s harvest feels like a milestone. A reminder that healing is holistic: rest, nourishment, love, and letting people help you. Shoutout to my amazing fiancé for literally being my right hand this week (pun still intended). ❤️
