4 weeks away from a solo deep dive ceremony - for those of you interested here is how I’m preparing …
Before I go into the specifics I wanted to define ceremony. I use this word often describing parts of my 1:1 work and events, so what the heck do I mean?
One of my teachers describes ceremony as “activities that take place only on special occasions and that are consciously designed to produce beneficial effects,” often involving stories, expression of visions, and pathways to inspiration and awe.
We are familiar with ceremonies like weddings, graduations, baby naming an and other rights of passage .
In the context of inner work it can involve ritual and the creation of a sacred container to create safety and regulation to hold the experience.
Importantly, ceremony includes beginning, middle and end. This structure gives a sense of predictability and safety for the system.
The beginning is the opening, intention stating and perhaps prayer and blessing for the journey.
The middle is the experience itself - for me, I’ll be going inward and meeting deep parts of myself and sitting with the wisdom and insights of sacred medicine. In my sessions this can include somatic prompting, visualization and journeying and energetic work.
The end is the coming back to the here and now, bringing you back to your body and the present moment and closing with some processing and integration. Clarifying for your system the experience is complete.
This simple structure creates a container of safety for the system to go deep and feel safe to meet your edge which for me is the ultimate goal.
Who has a different definition or experience of ceremony ? Would love to hear !
