Shout out to . Jennifer runs this gem of a studio that I am grateful to teach at Sunday mornings. It has quickly become my favourite way to start off Sundays. Swipe to read what a student wrote about my class last month. Reviews like this make my heart warm. If you are wanting to join classes I can’t recommend the teachers at Green room enough.

I’ve been fairly quiet over the last few years but I have a new in person class is now happening. This is a 45 min all levels class that focuses on getting to all the areas anyone who works at a desk may want to explore. Each week will have a variety of mobility and relaxation. Drops in welcome. ✨Dm for more details. ✨

Student testimonial:

“ I am a 55 year old woman who is noticing as the years roll on that my flexibility from sitting at work is becoming more and more restricted. Since joining Alexa, I have increased my mobility immensely.
I have found that since practicing yoga with Alexa, that my lower back and wrist pain from working long hours at the computer have been greatly improved. And I look forward to Tues workout with her so that my body can get some well deserved attention to the areas that are not often activated by other workouts. And also it is a calming session where you can mentally focus on your breathing and centering of your mind which is similar to what you do when working out. But it’s more reflective and calmer. I am fondly reminded of nap time when we were kids. An excuse to just be for a few precious minutes in the middle of our chaotic days. It is a mental and physical oasis where you are focusing on your body and mind only under the careful guidance of a yoga expert.” -L

Playing with some spinal wave variations. (video sped up x2)Some verbal cues for this movement:
Starting on knees and forearms. What is is like to round tucking your tailbone and chin, rounding as much as you can through your entire spin? Then extend tilting your tailbone to ceiling, lifting chest and maybe your head and eyes. Repeat as desired.
Perhaps then extending and shifting your pelvis and shoulders back towards your feet. The rounding and shifting your shoulders and pelvis forward. Repeat as desired.

💡Your alignment might not look like my alignment 💡and that just is
For example all of these different ways to place your hands behind your back and bind. You may feel differences in your wrists or elbows ? Maybe across your chest or shoulders? Somewhere else ?
Alignment can be a useful framework and at the same time it can be useful to explore different ways to practice a shape. Maybe your body likes one way better or maybe one way or another will be available while another may not be. Does this mean you are doing that shape any better or worse ?
Let me know what you observe if you try this out and want to share.

🙌🏻Your alignment might not look like my alignment 🙌🏻 and that is normal

For example have you tried changing the position of your pelvis in triangle - utthita trikonasana ? Notice you have shift your pelvis without moving your feet 🦶?
When you try this what do you notice about the sensations in your hips joints ? Your hamstrings? Your side waist? Anywhere else ?

✨Your alignment might not look like my alignment ✨ and that is wonderful
For example have you tried changing the position of your feet when folding forward? You can go wider, rotate your feet outwards or inwards, or walk your feet closer together.
When you try these do you notice any difference in the sensations of your back? Hamstrings ? Thighs? Somewhere else ?
Alignment can be a useful framework and at the same time it can be useful to explore different ways to practice a shape. Maybe your body likes one way better or maybe one way or another will be available while another may not be. Does this mean you are doing that shape any better or worse ?

Recorded my corporate lunchtime yoga class yesterday and then sped it up times 12. This class was a fun one playing around with neck strengthening and stretching as well as twisting in a variety of ways. Near the end the locus (salabhasana) flow was heavily inspired by recent post.
