Independence doesn’t always mean walking alone.
Sometimes, it means walking supported.

At Salius Rehab, we focus on safe, functional mobility — meeting residents where they are and helping them move forward with confidence, dignity, and the right support.

Progress isn’t about speed.
It’s about sustainability.
And every step matters.

As we enter the final month of the year, we’re reminded of one simple truth: progress comes in many forms — and all of it deserves to be celebrated. 💛

This moment captures exactly what our therapists and residents work toward every day: confidence, independence, and a little bit of joy along the way.

In long-term care, December can bring colder days and mobility challenges — but with consistent physio, purposeful OT sessions, and the right adaptive tools, residents can continue building strength and protecting their independence all year long.

This month, our focus is on:
• Personalized mobility training
• Strength + balance to reduce fall risk
• Supporting daily independence with real-life tools
• Gentle encouragement that meets each resident where they are

Here’s to ending the year strong, supported, and smiling — just like this.
At Salius Rehab, we’re proud to empower independence, one meaningful step at a time.

Weather Is Changing… But Your Mobility Doesn’t Have To!

As temperatures shift, many people notice more stiffness, soreness, or aching joints — especially seniors and those living with arthritis. But here’s the good news:
Not every new ache is a red flag… sometimes it’s just the weather talking.

At Salius Rehab, our goal is to help you understand your body, avoid those seasonal “false alarms,” and stay confident and independent all year long. 💛

Here’s how to stay ahead this season:

✔️ Keep Moving — Gentle daily activity keeps joints lubricated and muscles strong.
✔️ Warm Up Before Heading Out — 3–5 minutes of light mobility helps your body adjust to the cold.
✔️ Dress in Layers — Warm muscles = less stiffness.
✔️ Build Your Strength — Physio, OT, and RA-guided exercises help you tolerate seasonal changes with ease.
✔️ Know When to Check In — If pain limits your day-to-day, our team can assess what’s really going on.

✨ At Salius Rehab, we’re committed to empowering independence with evidence-based care, education, and hands-on support — every season, every step of the way.

If seasonal discomfort is creeping in, our team is here to help you move comfortably and confidently.
Send us a message anytime. 💛

November is National Caregiver Month 💛

This month, we recognize and celebrate the incredible caregivers who make independence possible for so many seniors. Whether it’s providing daily care, emotional support, or simply sharing a smile — caregivers are the heart behind every act of compassion.

At Salius Rehab, we see the dedication, patience, and love that caregivers bring every single day. You play a vital role in helping seniors stay active, safe, and connected.

To every family member, rehab assistant, nurse, and support worker — thank you for all that you do. Your care changes lives, one day at a time. 🌿

November is Fall Prevention Month 🍂

Did you know that most falls happen right at home — and many are completely preventable?

At Salius Rehab, our therapists work closely with seniors to build confidence, strength, and balance through personalized exercise programs and mobility strategies. We also assess home environments to identify simple modifications that can make a big difference — like removing loose rugs, improving lighting, and installing supportive grab bars.

✨ Simple Fall Prevention Tips:
• Keep frequently used items within easy reach to avoid overreaching or using unstable furniture for support.
• Wear well-fitting, non-slip shoes — even indoors.
• Take your time when standing up, turning, or changing directions.
• Add brighter bulbs or nightlights in hallways, bathrooms, and stairs.
• Stay active with daily balance and strength exercises — even 10 minutes can help.
• Schedule regular vision and medication check-ups to catch any balance-affecting changes early.

Falls can impact independence, but with the right support and a little daily movement, they don’t have to. This month, let’s raise awareness and empower our loved ones to stay safe, strong, and steady — one step at a time. 💛

Ever wonder what an Occupational Therapist (OT) does?
The answer: they help people get back to doing the things that make life meaningful

At Salius Rehab, our OTs support seniors in staying safe, independent, and confident in their daily routines.

Here’s how they make a difference:
- Assess how clients move and manage daily activities
- Recommend adaptive equipment and home safety modifications
- Teach strategies for energy conservation and pain management
- Help clients regain confidence after illness, injury, or surgery
- Support emotional well-being through purposeful activity

Whether it’s buttoning a shirt, making tea, or taking that first walk again — OTs empower clients to live life their way.

Staying balanced starts with small steps!

Here are 3 simple balance exercises seniors can do daily to improve stability, confidence, and strength:

Heel-to-Toe Walk – Walk in a straight line, placing your heel right in front of your toe with each step.

Single-Leg Stand – Stand tall and lift one foot off the ground for 10 seconds. Hold onto a sturdy chair if needed.

Side Leg Raises – Hold a chair for support and slowly lift one leg out to the side, then lower. Repeat 10 times each leg.

Tip: Consistency is key! Just a few minutes a day can make a big difference in balance and fall prevention.
Empowering independence starts with movement — one steady step at a time

🎉 Celebrating 25 Years of Compassionate Care at Cartier House!

In August, our Clinical Leader, Swatik, had the pleasure of attending Cartier House’s 25th Anniversary Celebration — a joyful milestone marking decades of exceptional care, community, and connection.

Cartier House, part of the Park Place Seniors Living family, has been a cornerstone of support for residents and their families. It was an honour for Salius Rehab to join in the festivities and celebrate this incredible achievement with their team, residents, and families.

We’re always inspired by the dedication and heart that go into creating such meaningful environments for seniors to thrive. Here’s to 25 years of care, compassion, and community — and to many more ahead! 💙

🌍 World Physiotherapy Day was on September 8 — a day to recognize the vital role physiotherapists play in healthcare, especially in senior rehabilitation.

At Salius Rehab, our physiotherapists are more than movement experts — they’re partners in independence. They:
✔️ Restore mobility after injury or illness
✔️ Prevent falls through balance and strength programs
✔️ Empower seniors to stay active and confident in daily life
✔️ Collaborate with occupational therapists and rehabilitation assistants for client-centered care

For seniors, progress is often measured in small but life-changing moments — climbing stairs again, walking without fear, or simply regaining the freedom to enjoy everyday routines. Our PTs make these victories possible.

We’re proud to celebrate and thank our physiotherapy team for their expertise, compassion, and commitment to improving quality of life for seniors across British Columbia.
