If you've been in a motor vehicle accident, you may not know that ICBC covers counselling — often at no out-of-pocket cost to you.

Accidents can leave more than physical injuries. Anxiety, difficulty sleeping, intrusive memories, hypervigilance, and a persistent sense that something has shifted — these are all real, common, and treatable responses to what you've been through.

At Clearheart Counselling, our Registered Clinical Counsellors are experienced in MVA-related trauma and work directly with ICBC claims. You don't need a doctor's referral to begin.

Contact us and we'll walk you through the ICBC process from the first call.

In-person at our Vancouver (South Granville) and Coquitlam (Austin Heights) offices. Virtual sessions available across BC.

Trauma doesn’t always announce itself.

Sometimes it’s a memory that surfaces without warning. A reaction that feels out of proportion. A sense that something from the past is still running in the background of your present.

Other times, it’s harder to name.

Life may look like it’s moving forward on the outside — but something on the inside hasn’t quite caught up. It can show up as anxiety, disconnection, avoidance, or feeling like you’re not fully present in your own life.

You don’t have to use the word “trauma” to benefit from trauma counselling. If something is affecting how you feel or how you respond, that’s enough.

At Clearheart Counselling, our Registered Clinical Counsellors use EMDR, somatic therapy, and trauma-informed approaches to help you process experiences at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

You are always in control of what you share and when.

In-person sessions available in Vancouver and Coquitlam. Virtual sessions available across BC. Free 15-minute consultation.

Most couples who come to us aren't in crisis. They're stuck.

The same conversations that go nowhere. The growing distance that neither person knows how to close. The sense that you're both trying, but something keeps getting in the way.

Couples counselling isn't about deciding who's right. It's about understanding the cycle you're in — and learning a different way through it.

The Gottman Method is one of the most widely recognized approaches in couples counselling — and for good reason.

It’s grounded in decades of research studying how real couples communicate, manage conflict, and build trust over time. That long-term observation helped identify patterns that predict relationship health and patterns that create distress.

Rather than focusing only on insight, the Gottman Method offers practical tools that couples can apply in everyday life.

If you’d like to learn more about how this approach works, we explain it in detail in our newest blog:

Healthy couples still argue.

One of the key insights from research behind the Gottman Method is that conflict itself isn’t what damages relationships. Many disagreements are ongoing and rooted in differences — not failures.

What matters most is how couples manage those moments: whether conversations escalate or de-escalate, whether repair happens, and whether both partners feel emotionally safe.

In our latest blog, we explain how the Gottman Method approaches conflict and why many couples find it helpful.

What is the Gottman Method — and why do so many couples talk about it?

The Gottman Method is a well-known, research-based approach to couples counselling that focuses on communication, emotional connection, and managing conflict more effectively.

Many couples come across the Gottman Method while researching therapy and wonder what it actually involves — and whether it might be right for them.

In our newest blog, we explain the Gottman Method in plain language, including how it works, what it helps with, and why it’s so widely used in couples therapy.

Many people wonder whether therapy is really necessary — or if they should be able to handle things on their own.

It’s a question many people ask themselves, especially at the start of a new year. If you’ve been feeling unsure, stuck, or wondering whether counselling could help, you’re not alone.

Our latest blog explores how to tell when self-help is enough, when therapy might be supportive, and how to decide what feels right for you — without pressure or judgment.

If this question has crossed your mind, you’re not alone. Learn more on our blog.

It’s completely normal for couples to feel distant — what matters is how you find your way back.

Start with curiosity, small gestures, and consistent moments of connection. Love isn’t lost — it just needs attention.
