B.C. Rheumatoid Arthritis Support

B.C. Rheumatoid Arthritis Support This page is for those with Rheumatoid Arthritis in British Columbia, providing information and support. Melissa, I would not have made it without you!

Anyone can join us, it doesn't matter where you live, however, the content will be focused on the Vancouver area, British Columbia and Canada. Facebook has made this world much smaller and without it and those who share on it - I would not have come through my first year of RA (2012) without it. I was inspired to start this page by all the wonderful people I have met on Facebook and in person who have been a part of my life since my diagnosis. Kelly Young at www.rheumatoidarthritiswarrior.com, Niki Wyre at RA Chicks, and my RA sister Melissa who lives near Chicago, who was diagnosed at the age of 2, and whom I have never met! I have to acknowledge my sister Denise, my mom Leighton, my GP of 30 years, Heather Morrison who I went to at the beginning of my first big flare, retired during this time referring me to a new GP who has been great, my rheumy Dr. Shahin Jamal, and her nurse Bonnie, who always make me feel heard. There are many others on my team as well, my Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and everyone at the Mary Pack Arthritis Centre. I have an amazing team and I hope this page supports you while you find yours! Please open the "Notes" link on the right side of the main page just under the Welcome message. You will find many local and general RA resources in the "links/website" post. Let us know if you have resources to add.

Rheumatoid Arthritis can look like more than joint pain.

🫥 RA is an invisible illness — it doesn’t always leave visible marks, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there. People with RA often navigate daily pain, extreme fatigue, and emotional battles without anyone noticing. Just because someone looks “fine” doesn’t mean they feel fine.

It's self-compassionate to look for the silences between thoughts. It's a break from discursive thinking. It's a moment of calmness and restfulness that our minds sorely need.

Immunotherapy helps the immune system fight cancer, but sometimes it can also trigger inflammatory arthritis in some patients.

Little is known about who’s most at risk, how common this is, or how to treat and prevent it effectively. This research study aims to close those gaps—and Canada is uniquely positioned to lead, thanks to a national database of confirmed cases.
