I am a Firefighter, mom of three and a fitness and food junkie. Follow this page for motivation, workouts, recipes and an inside look at what it's like to be a firefighter. I have been a paid-on-call firefighter for almost 3 years. Well, it means I work a full-time job and carry a pager around with me 24/7, 365. When I hear the beep beep that means it's GO time. I wasn't the kid who knew they want
ed to be a firefighter from the time they were 5. In fact, it took me all of 36 years to decide that I wanted to be a firefighter. People ask me, "why did you want to become a firefighter". My honest answer is, I wanted the challenge. I wanted to prove to myself that I was capable of more. That I was strong enough, smart enough and worthy. Of course, I can now say that I am honoured to serve the community that I call home. Fitness has always been a huge part of my life, from playing competitive sports in high school, becoming a Group Fitness Instructor as a young adult, running competitively, triathlons, mountain biking, Crossfit.... but this was different. As a young adult, most of my fitness endeavours were to look a certain way, be a certain size etc. As I have grown up and found firefighting, I have a whole new perspective on being physically fit and healthy. If I am not at my best, someone else's life could depend on it. While I am still a very new firefighter (Probie/New Recruit) and not running into burning buildings yet, it is still vital to be as healthy and strong as I can be and not just physically, but mentally too. As a mom of three, going to school and having a full-time job, it is REALLY hard to find the time and motivation to "workout". My days never go exactly as planned, but, I keep trying. I don't rely on motivation to get my workouts in and keep my meals on track. I rely on determination to succeed and build healthy routines and habits. This page is meant to share knowledge, triumphs, fails and a place for first responders, aspiring first responders or health and fitness-minded people to visit to find useful information. Be Healthy. Be Real, and laugh at yourself. Heather
