Ashtanga Yoga Club

Ashtanga Yoga Club Your journey begins with seeing yourself as a whole through the practice of yoga.

The positive impact of Ashtanga yoga embeds discipline, devotion, and self-inquiry. Your journey begins with seeing yourself as whole through the practice of yoga. The mission of AYC is simple: create an environment and community where teachers, practitioners, and facilitators with shared values can work together under a banner that represents the philosophy and the art of Ashtanga vinyasa yoga. Through retreats, events, mysore-style classes, on & offline courses on Hatha/Ashtanga Yoga; Ashtanga Yoga Club is a place for freedom of expression where one can push their limits and unlock their full potential on and off the mats.

Yoga is more than the shapes the body can make.

It’s how you nourish yourself,
how often you step into the quiet of nature,
how you choose rest without guilt.

It lives in the meals you prepare with care,
the pages you fill with honest words,
the moments you protect for joy.

The practice doesn’t end when the mat is rolled up,
it continues in how you tend to your life.

Movement as meditation.

Breath as the bridge.

When the body leads, the mind learns how to rest.

Ujjayi Breathing, often called the victorious breath, is a steady, audible nasal breath created by gently narrowing the back of the throat. 🌊

This subtle constriction increases oxygen efficiency, stimulates the vagus nerve, and supports parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) activation, helping calm the nervous system and steady the mind.

How to Practice:
- Begin seated or in practice with a tall spine and relaxed jaw.
- Slightly constrict the back of the throat as you breathe through the nose, creating a soft, ocean-like sound.
- On the inhale, expand the ribcage outward and gently lift the chest to fully fill the lungs.
- On the exhale, allow the ribs to soften and sink inward as the lower abdominal muscles gradually engage to release the breath completely.
- Keep the breath smooth, controlled, and equal in length, never forced.

Why it matters on the mat:
Ujjayi builds internal heat, improves focus, supports stability in postures, and creates rhythm through transitions. The sound of the breath becomes an anchor, keeping awareness present and movement intentional. 🧘‍♀️

Why it matters in life:
Beyond yoga, Ujjayi helps regulate stress, improve breath awareness, and cultivate calm during challenging moments, training the nervous system to respond with steadiness rather than urgency.

Give it a try and let us know if you feel the difference! 🌬️

Monday, February 2nd, practice update. 🤍

From 6–9 AM, our space will be open for community practice (no teacher), a time to move inward, listen, and explore your practice independently.

From 9–10 AM, we return to regular Mysore-style practice with a teacher for guided support and connection.

All are welcome. Let’s meet in practice ✨

Ashtanga yoga holds great beauty, but it also carries a complicated past.
To ignore that history would be a disservice.
To let it define the practice would be, too.

At our Ashtanga Yoga Club, we believe that structure can be supportive without becoming restrictive, and that discipline can exist without surrendering personal agency.

We choose curiosity over hierarchy, respect over reverence, and learning over unquestioned authority.

This is a space where:
• Questions are welcomed.
• Silence is a place of rest, not pressure.
• Growth unfolds at its own pace.
• The practice remains in the hands and hearts of the practitioner.

Yoga, at its essence, is a path toward freedom.
We are devoted to protecting that freedom.

Join us and let's build a community we're proud of together. ♥️
