Running across this little meadow of beautiful flowers on an emotionally heavy hike gives me hope. My grandmother gave me a picture when I was a little girl. It said “take time to smell the flowers”. I couldn’t help but think of her just now. She died when I was quite young. I wish I’d never gotten rid of that picture, but I did.

If your heart is heavy, try and get outside in the fresh air. There’s nothing more grounding than the earth and everything alive around you. It’s peaceful. And it’s a good place to cry. I promise 💙

It needs to be done but is a pain in the a$$!
My go to:
1. Definitely key pack a bag with far more stuff then your going to need 😅
2. dress for success: that means dress for all weather conditions for a 2 hour walk 🚶‍♀️
3. Spend the other 3 hours staring out the window, in a place I don’t often visit. Day dreaming, and thinking about all the things I’m looking forward to in the next months 🥰

The last part make the first 2 worthwhile 🫶

Some highlights from the Mind•Body•Spirit Psychotherapy Conference & Workshop.

I’ve had my head to the grind in the best way possible since I got home, but I wanted to take a breathing & reflection moment so my time away doesn’t become just a distant memory 🙏

I had a wonderful time. I met a lot of really cool people who I look forward to working with again within the next year, I learned a lot, and not surprisingly, I experienced some much needed healing too 🥰

I’m looking forward to the next one, and also to furthering my education and developing my skills as a practitioner 🙏

🙏

World Mental health day: Acceptance and Dignity

There are all kinds of reasons why people struggle with mental health. And often times it’s not just mental, it’s emotional, spiritual, physical, financial, and relational too, among others. That’s why holistic health is so important to me.

Not just for the sake of my clients, friends, or family members, but for the sake of myself as well. This is always going to be something deeply personal because the experience of it resides within the person suffering.

But when there’s even just a little bit of trust, validation, acceptance and love, the potential to be vulnerable can arise, and thats when the support being offered just might be accepted. And it might be accepted in ways we aren’t expecting. So we have to keep our eyes open.

So what I’m going to do today is acknowledge that I see people suffering all over the place. And I see myself suffering too sometimes. And because I believe that people inherently know how to help themselves, I’m not going to make suggestions on what they can or should do- especially when they’ve likely already googled it anyway. Or they’ve watched multiple videos on the same thing and haven’t taken the advice because it just didn’t resonate.

Instead I’m going to ask people how they feel, what they think and what they need. And then I’ll ask them what they’ve done in the past that’s been helpful, and we’ll go from there. If they can’t remember, or if it isn’t possible to do, I’ll ask them to think about parallel alternatives and I’ll provide my own perspective only when I’m asked directly to do that.

This will be my contribution today. And I’ll strive to continue doing it everyday. I will accept myself and others for where they’re at, and I’ll hold a place for dignity of persons.

Special shout out to the person with the chalk. Your message made me feel good 💙

To be able to be a part of, and make meaning of life experiences with another human being is incredibly healing. This is why I love therapy so much, and I’m honoured to be a therapist.
