Things to consider when ensuring your birth space is supporting the mind-body connection during your labour:

1. Where do I feel the most safe birthing my baby?
2. Does my birth team believe in my plan?
3. Is my partner prepared to support me?
4. Have I helped my body feel strong in this pregnancy?
5. What food with fuel my labour?
6. Who is going to advocate for my birth preferences?
7. What do I need in my birth space to help me feel safe?
8. Does my provider & birth location align with my values?
9. Has my provider witnessed & supported the type of birth I desire?
10. What expectations do I have of my birth team during this experience?

What started as a client relationship has blossomed into something truly magical. When I met Cass many years ago, I knew right then and there she had so much to offer the birth and postpartum space.

From store owner, home-birther, to mom of two, Cass’s ability to shift with the ebbs and flows is something truly inspiring.

If you’ve had the pleasure of working with Cass in one of her many roles at The Doula Tree, I have no doubt you left feeling loved & nurtured. So if you’ve haven’t had a consult with her, run don’t walk!

Here’s to many more years supporting families together!

Fun fact: home birth is proven to be just as safe (if not safer) than hospital births for low risk, healthy women.

Not sure? Ask women in your community who have had home births about their experience. Speak to your local midwives or attend one of their monthly “choice of birth places information nights). You can even call a doula (hello!) & ask for some non-biased feedback. The information is out there if you want to find it ♥️

Brittany’s rule: never ever make decisions based on uneducated fear and/or other peoples opinions.

Do you want to really help a newly postpartum mother? Focus on these 4 things & you can’t go wrong!

New mom in all the feels? Prioritize HALT every.single.day.

Hungry: eat a protein packed breakfast, set up a meal train & hydrate with electrolytes

Angry: think of ways to boost natural oxytocin including morning sunshine, a clean home & doula support

Lonely: plan your postpartum village with intention! Invite a friend over, visit an early on centre or join a yoga class

Tired: you need rest! Hire a doula to squeeze in a daytime nap or soak up a solid night. Invite your mother over for baby cuddles while you snooze for an hour. Prioritizing sleep with require effort and asking for help & this is your permission to do that.

Send this to your postpartum supports so they know EXACTLY how to be helpful when you welcome your new baby ♥️

I don’t believe in coincidences when it comes to birth. The concept of “pain” or intensity is easier to process when we have time in between to rest & reset. Each wave of a contraction lasts approximately 60 seconds long, followed by sometimes 5 mins of feeling nothing at all. In my experience, the people that use the 5 mins to relax their muscles, take a micro nap or eat a quick snack are way more likely to withstand the intensity of labour than those that remain tense & tight. Labour is a beautiful, messy dance you have to work WITH, not against. We often need reminders of that in labour, so if you’re looking to add a doula to your team, we’d love to chat!
